Chris Wallace and Jane Fonda have an awkward flirty moment: ‘Are you married?’ … ‘You interested?’

Actress Jane Fonda, who is now 85 years old, appeared to awkwardly flirt with CNN host Chris Wallace, 75, asking him if he was married during a discussion concerning cocktail parties, prompting him to ask her if she was interested.

The exchange took place during a segment of “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace” on CNN. It occurred as Fonda talked about her social awkwardness and how she struggles at parties. The preview clip was originally obtained by Mediaite.

Fonda claimed that whenever she goes to cocktail parties, which she hates, she winds up talking to one person in the corner of the room because she is shy.

“I hate parties. I hate cocktail parties. I always end up finding one person that is interesting and sitting in a corner all night. Do you do that?” she asked Wallace.

“I, yeah, I know what you’re saying,” he responded.

That’s when Fonda took the conversation in a cringe-worthy direction.

“Because I’m shy, basically. Which, you know, just small talk. I don’t. I can’t do it. Isn’t that boring? (cut) Are you married?” she asked a bemused and somewhat shocked Wallace.

“Yes. Are you interested?” he nervously laughed.

“No, I just. I just thought I should invite you to parties so that the two of us can just go into a corner…” Fonda awkwardly replied.

“I would love that,” Wallace asserted.

“…and talk. And I don’t have to deal with the rest of it,” Fonda concluded.

The actress has been married three times. Once to French filmmaker Roger Vadim between 1965 and 1973, then to political activist Tom Hayden between 1973 and 1990, and finally to CNN mogul Ted Turner between 1991 and 2001. Fonda has not remarried after Turner. She is a notorious leftist and her former husbands share that predilection with her.

Fonda is known for her political stances on human rights, environmental issues, and her opposition to the Vietnam War which earned her the moniker of “Hanoi Jane.” She is infamous for a photo of her posing on a Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun in 1972.

Wallace has been married twice and is still wed to his second wife, Lorraine Smothers. They were married in 1997 and have been together for over 25 years. Before that, he was married to Elizabeth Jane Farrell. They were married for more than two decades and had four children together before divorcing in 1994.

Previously this year, Fonda revealed that she suffered from an eating disorder during her career. It was so severe that she thought she “wouldn’t live past age 30.”

She began acting when she was a teen and went on to become a Hollywood legend.

“I was miserable, I didn’t enjoy it. I kept wanting to quit,” she told Alex Cooper during the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. “I was suffering from an eating disorder. I was bulimic [and] anorexic. I suffered from bulimia very, very bad. I led a secret life, I was very, very, unhappy. I assumed I wouldn’t live past 30.”

Fonda also disclosed in December that she was in remission after being diagnosed in September with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“I won,” she triumphantly declared.

Those seeing the exchange between Fonda and Wallace were not impressed and were slightly disgusted. They expressed as much in commentary on the duo:

“They can discuss her hatred for this country.”

“They inhabit the same hackery bubble.”

“They were obviously playing footsie under the table.”

“She’s a communist.”

“They deserve each other.”
