Buttigieg bombs for boasting ‘rail safety’ after Ohio derailment, just before ANOTHER train comes loose in Michigan

Ten days after the residents of East Palestine saw a train carrying deadly toxic chemicals derail in what some are calling an environmental catastrophe, President Joe Biden’s “equity” pick for Transportation Secretary, Pete Buttigieg, finally found time to tweet about the incident.

His remarks were received about as well as East Palestinians welcomed the fire-engulfed cars that have turned the Ohio farming community upside-down.

“In the wake of the East Palestine derailment and its impact on hundreds of residents, we’re seeing lots of newfound or renewed (and welcome) interest in our work on rail safety, so I wanted to share more about what we’ve been doing in this area,” Buttigieg tweeted on Valentine’s Day.

While residents, who were assured by the EPA and their governor that it was totally safe to return home just two days after officials decided to set the chemical quagmire on fire, were wondering why their chickens were dead, Buttigieg took the opportunity to tout Biden’s $1 trillion Infrastructure Law.

“We are making historic investments on rail safety through funding in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, work that accelerates this year and continue in the years to come,” he wrote. “In June we announced $120 million in grants to help improve railway safety.”

Of course, those grants went to “projects that promote FRA’s key goals of safety, economic growth, transportation equity, and sustainable and resilient infrastructure,” according to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).

Because when a train goes off the rails and the government responds by creating a toxic mushroom cloud over your front porch, the one thing you really want to know is, “Was the transportation equitable?”

“The infrastructure law created a new program that provides $3 billion dedicated to eliminating at-grade rail crossings to reduce crashes and save lives,” Buttigieg explained. “We will announce awards for the first round of projects this summer.”

We are sure the residents of East Palestine will be on pins and needles for that event.

They are probably also thrilled to learn that those guys walking around their town in hazmat suits were likely well-protected thanks to “$32.4 M in grants.”

“Our priority is to prevent transportation incidents, but when they do occur and hazardous material is involved, we want first responders to be prepared,” Buttigieg bragged. “We recently awarded $32.4 M in grants to strengthen local efforts to respond to hazmat incidents.”

And because Pete can’t be bothered with the people of Ohio who are suffering right now, he went on to explain to his followers that “good regulation & effective enforcement are key to lowering the risk of rail incidents, injuries & fatalities.”

“DOT is continually updating & enforcing our rail regulations to make trains safer & push the injury rate toward zero,” he tweeted.

So, you know… sure, Ohio and possibly parts of Pennsylvania may be a disaster, but they are really working on the regulations, so, just chill out.

The Transportation Secretary couldn’t appear more tone-deaf if he tried to blame Trump for the derailment.

Oh, wait…

The entire thread was, as one Twitter user put it, an “EPIC FAIL.”

“This is an absolutely insane thing to tweet,” replied Jack Kennedy of Barstool Sports.

“You’re A Disgrace!” exclaimed another user. “RESIGN!”

“Where exactly was @SecretaryPete BEFORE all these crises happened?” asked Americans for Public Trust, a group of lawyers and researchers dedicated to “holding the powerful accountable.”

“Maybe if Private Jet Pete had spent more time shoring up air and rail travel instead of pushing the ESG agenda — while traveling on a taxpayer-funded private jet — we would not be seeing all these calamities,” the group stated.

And, according to Fox News contributor Joe Concha, “The Transportation Secretary appears to be tweeting his way through the East Palestine disaster ten days late instead of, you know… going there.”

But, for another Twitter user, Buttigieg’s thread spoke volumes about his character and that of those who hired him to do a job he is clearly unqualified to do.

“Wtf kind of response is this?” the user asked. “Such unnecessary snark, what kind of person responds like this to people rightfully concerned over a train derailment that lead to a disastrous toxic explosion that the federal government wants to downplay and do nothing about?”

Buttigieg’s weak response came up too short, too late, and just days ahead of yet another train derailment outside of Detroit, Michigan on Thursday. At least one train car was carrying hazardous material and the cause of the derailment is unknown, reported Fox News. Tragically, the Ohio and Michigan accidents are among at least a dozen train derailments just this year, several outlets have reported.
