Steve Bannon slams self-serving ‘oligarchs’ pulling GOP’s purse strings: ‘1,000 percent anti-Trump’

Former President Donald Trump officially has a challenger for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination and, as more are sure to follow, his former adviser Steve Bannon laid into the “oligarchs” controlling the purse strings of the GOP he insists are “1,000 percent anti-Trump.”

Monday on his “War Room” podcast, Bannon called out mega-donors like the Koch brothers and hedge fund manager Ken Griffin as unprincipled backers only interested in spending money where they see it providing them the most benefit.

In the segment he began, “Remember, money has no courage. It doesn’t. Money has no courage. Zero. I’ve seen it up close and personal for years. These wealthy guys will just do what they got to do to continue to be wealthy, to get more powerful and to just go with the flow.”

Bannon went on to label these types of financial supporters as frontrunners who, were they to support Trump, would turn on him the moment they saw an opportunity to profit elsewhere. “They’re never going to stand up. Right? If Trump’s hot they’ll back Trump. As soon as Trump’s not hot, boom, gone. Right? And right now they are absolutely 1,000 percent anti-Trump — just understand that — anti-Trump.”

“From the Kochs all the way across the board, the Singer to Ken Griffin, the whole, you know, the whole deal. The whole deal. So this is why people go, ‘Well Bannon, you can’t talk about tax increases’ — until you get this thing to a surplus, until you get the Federal Reserve to stop printing money and destroying you and your financial well-being and your family, and your children and your grandchildren. You think I have any problem whatsoever taxing the oligarchs?” he asked.

“No, I do not.”

Two weeks after teasing the announcement, former United States ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley officially threw her hat in the ring to challenge Trump for the nomination. The list of others likely to follow suit remains long including Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) whom has already garnered support from Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman who had contributed $1 million to a Trump-backing political action committee in 2018.

Similarly, Emily Seidel, a senior adviser from the Koch brothers aligned Americans for Prosperity Action had sent an internal memo after a gathering of GOP activists that read, “To write a new chapter for our country, we need to turn the page on the past. So the best thing for the country would be to have a president in 2025 who represents a new chapter. The American people have shown that they’re ready to move on, and so AFP will help them do that.”

“If they’re gonna be the ones who back into supporting all this woke madness and benefitting from all this fiscal domination and deficit spending and benefitting from the Federal Reserve, no, I don’t have — and you’re taking the brunt of it. You think I have? You think I’m gonna go Grover Norquist?” he continued, mentioning the founder and president of Americans for Tax Reform. “No, I am certainly not.”

“And I’m not talking about rich people, and I’m not talking about wealthy people and I’m not talking about the upper middle class,” Bannon concluded. “No, I’m talking about the oligarchs. And there’s plenty of them.”
