Footage shows Fla. mom-of-two leave ‘scary’ ex-boyfriend’s home just before she vanished

Rachel Schwartz, a 33-year-old mother and Iraq War veteran from Florida, simply vanished after last being seen on Ring camera footage leaving her ex-boyfriend John Scorah’s home in Wimauma, Hillsborough County. She told her family that she feared him.

Schwartz can be seen in the chilling footage pulling her luggage from Scorah’s home at 5:46 pm on January 31. She proceeded to check into a veteran crisis center. After that, she disappeared.

Schwartz was also reportedly considering an order of protection, according to the New York Post, and was last seen in Spring Hill, roughly 50 miles north of Tampa on Jan. 31.

As she was leaving Scorah’s residence, he can be heard yelling, “Rachel I have everything you need, I’m asking you to stay one more day,” according to the Daily Mail.

Schwartz’s history with the man sounds complicated. She reportedly moved to Minnesota last year to get away from him. He was arrested in April 2022 for battery, according to Fox News. Schwartz posted his bond and prosecutors dropped the case in October.

The mother-of-two disappeared while she was in Florida visiting her two sons whom she shares with their father, who is not Scorah.

At some point during the trip, she visited Scorah at his home in Wimauma, according to Elizabeth Schrupp, Schwartz’s sister. That’s when she was recorded leaving the man’s home.

“My sister has been missing as of Jan. 31,” Schrupp, wrote in a Facebook post. “She was supposed to fly home Feb. 4. Her last message to my dad was that she wanted to come home and she was afraid of her ex. The same day her phone and social media account went silent.”

“She’s missing,” Schrupp told Fox News Digital on Monday. “We want her to know that we love her and we care about her.”

The sister claims that police have since contacted Scorah following Schwartz’s disappearance, saying, “Police have conducted welfare checks on her ex boyfriend’s home – one with no answer and one after she had been missing for almost a week.”

Schwartz was active on social media during her Florida trip, posting a number of photos. Her final post before vanishing showed her eating and posing for the camera.

“I love finding open fields in FL. It’s rare now days and one day this peace in earth may not be here,” she wrote a few weeks before disappearing as she traveled around Florida.

Before relocating to Minnesota in late October, the Iraq War veteran completed a PTSD Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program. She suffered from PTSD and other stress-related illnesses, according to Fox News.

“I highly recommended written exposure therapy for those who have PTSD and have struggled like I have,” she wrote on social media. “And it doesn’t end here. This is only the beginning!”

Schwartz is five feet, two inches tall and has blonde hair and blue eyes. She weighs around 100 pounds and was last seen wearing blue pants, a white sleeveless shirt and carrying a large black suitcase and an orange and black carry-on bag.

A missing person’s report has been filed by the father of her children according to a sheriff’s office spokeswoman.

Anyone with information on Schwartz’s whereabouts is asked to call the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office at (352) 754-6830.
