Cheers of ‘USA!’ erupt when North Dakota council unanimously votes down Chinese company’s local project

A city council in North Dakota voted toward protecting national security and national sovereignty in just the latest move taking a stand against the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) attempting to purchase control of the United States.

Monday, the city council of Grand Forks, North Dakota was met with cheers of “USA!” from attendees after voting unanimously to prevent the Chinese Fufeng Group from moving ahead with plans to develop a corn mill on land they had purchased near the Grand Forks Air Force Base. According to Fox Business, Fufeng had spent $2.3 million to take ownership of a 300-acre plot only 12 miles from the base, home to top secret drone technology.

Despite promises of millions in tax revenue and at least 200 jobs, the council heeded the warnings of officials about the company’s ties to the CCP.

Air Force Assistant Secretary Andrew Hunter had written a letter to North Dakota senators stating, “Grand Forks Air Force Base is the center of military activities related to both air and space operations.”

“While [the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States] concluded that it did not have jurisdiction, the Department’s view is unambiguous: the proposed project presents a significant threat to national security with both near- and long-term risks of significant impacts to our operations in the area,” he went on.

Joining Fox News host Martha MacCallum on “The Story,” Grand Forks Mayor Brandon Bochenski spoke about the limited but significant constraints the city had to “basically deny infrastructure and deny building permits.”

“So they have the land, but they have no ability to build anything on it,” he explained.

Chinese land ownership in the United States has become of increasingly growing concern and a number of leaders have proposed action to curb the trend. In January, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) labeled China a “hostile nation” and announced his intent to have his state legislature add to previous laws prohibiting China-back Confucius Institutes from infiltrating state colleges.

“I think we’re going to go even further on that. The legislature only went so far a couple years ago,” the governor said. “I think they’re going to have an appetite to do more because [China’s] influence on our society has been very insidious.”

“It hurts our economic vitality,” he went on, “it hurts our security. When COVID hit, people needed all these supplies; I think 100 percent of it was made in China. Why would you want to rely on a hostile nation for things that are integral for our quality of life and security?”

Little over a week later, former President Donald Trump voiced similar concerns at the federal level as he published a video announcing his plan, if reelected, to keep China from setting stakes in America.

“China is buying up our country. While corrupt Democrats and RINO-type politicians in Washington have been spending trillions of dollars on the Green New Deal nonsense, foolish foreign wars and providing lavish benefits to illegal aliens from all over the planet,” Trump said, “China has been spending trillions to take over the crown jewels of the United States economy, and they are doing that.”

“China is buying up our technology, they are buying up food supplies, they are buying up our farmland, they are buying up our minerals and natural resources,” the former president continued. “They are buying up our ports and shipping terminals and with the help of a corrupt influence-peddlers like the Biden crime family, China is even trying to buy up the pillars of the U.S. energy industry because frankly, Biden and the group don’t care about real energy, they only care about nonsense energy, energy that doesn’t work, and it never will.”

“When I’m president, I will ensure that America’s future remains firmly in American hands, not in China’s. We need to enact aggressive new restrictions on Chinese ownership of any vital infrastructure in the United States, including energy, technology, telecommunications, farmland, natural resources, medical supplies, and other strategic national assets.”
