Winston Marshall informs Bill Maher he retracted apology to ‘woke mob,’ quit Mumford and Sons

The former banjoist of Mumford and Sons, Winston Marshall, who was caught up in leftists attempting to cancel him after he praised conservative Andy Ngo’s book on Antifa, spoke up once again, telling HBO host Bill Maher that he retracted his apology for liking the book and quit the band after that.

Maher’s monologue got a lot of play after he ran it this weekend. The segment mentioned Marshall and the apology he issued at one point after sending out an innocent tweet to Ngo, calling him very brave for writing the book.

After reflecting on the book and what he stands for, Marshall retracted the apology and quit the band he founded.

It is unclear why Maher did not include the fact that Marshall had retracted the apology but it should have been noted. At the time it was given, it did not receive the massive exposure that Marshall’s original tweet did along with the requisite outrage from the left.

Ngo also felt bad for Marshall being put through what befell him simply for having an opinion on his book, tweeting, “I feel helpless in only being able to say sorry for the ways you were made to suffer for expressing support for my book. I never took your tweet for granted. You’re incredibly brave & that’s why you were targeted in that industry.”

Despite the apparent oversight concerning Marshall, Maher’s monologue took aim at communism and woke revolutions.

“If you are part of today’s woke revolution, you need to study the part of revolutions where they spin out of control because the revolutionaries get so drunk on their own purifying elixir, they imagine they can reinvent the very nature of human beings,” Maher opened the segment.

The problem with communism and with some very recent ideologies here at home is that they think you can change reality by screaming at it, that you can bend human nature by holding your breath. But that’s the difference between reality and your mommy,” he quipped. “Lincoln once said that you can repeal all past history, but you still cannot repeal human nature. But he’s canceled now, so f*** him.”

Maher referred to how Chairman Mao Zedong thought he could “rewrite” humans by ordering his citizens to “throw off ‘the Four Olds’ – old thinking, old culture, old customs, and old habits. So your whole life went in the garbage overnight, no biggie. And those who resisted were attacked by an army of purifiers called the Red Guard who went around the country putting dunce caps on people. Whoever didn’t take to being a new kind of mortal being, a lot of pointing and shaming went on. Oh, and about a million dead, and the only way to survive was to plead insanity for the crime of being insufficiently radical.”

“We do have our own Red Guard here, but they do their rampaging on Twitter,” he snarked.

“The banjo player from Mumford and Sons tweeted that he liked a book. A book that apparently had not been approved by the revolution. So, of course, he had to delete the tweet, then take time away from the band. Oh my God! You mean this could have affected Mumford and Sons? And then the cringing apology, ‘I have come to better understand the pain caused by the book I endorsed.’ Pain? From a book? Unless he hit the drummer over the head with it. Whatever happened to, ‘I can read whatever the f*** I want? Don’t worry, I’m a musician. It won’t happen again,'” Maher stated and then referred to John Lennon’s song on revolution.

Many on social media were glad to see Marshall reiterate his retraction and asserted that Maher should do a follow-up and give him credit where it is due. There were quite a few who were not even aware there had been a retraction:
