DNC hit from all sides after citing diversity to make South Carolina first primary voting state

For decades Democrats have kicked off their presidential elections in Iowa (first caucus) and New Hampshire (first primary). But not anymore.

In an ostensible bid to better represent minority voters, the Democrat National Committee (DNC) has voted to begin the 2024 presidential election in South Carolina instead, according to CBS News.

South Carolina is the state that propelled President Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign from the dumpster to the rooftop. Coincidence or conspiracy?

According to reports, Iowa will be completely tossed out of the first leg of the primaries, while New Hampshire will be pushed back to second place.

“The Democrat Party looks like America, and so does this proposal. This calendar does what is long overdue. It expands the number of voices in the early window, and it elevates diverse communities that are at the core of the Democratic Party,” DNC chair Jamie Harrison reportedly said in a statement.

There’s just one small problem: Democrats AND Republicans in the affected states, particularly New Hampshire, aren’t having it.

“Republicans have already selected Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada to hold their early elections. Republican leaders in both New Hampshire and Georgia have said they won’t hold separate primaries,” the Los Angeles Times reported.

Meanwhile, state Democrats in New Hampshire released a statement:

“The vote by the Democratic National Committee in Philadelphia is not the last word on the 2024 Presidential primary calendar. No party committee gave New Hampshire the first-in-the-nation primary. Granite Staters created this process to put the power in voters’ hands and give every candidate a fair shot, no matter their cash-on-hand or status within the party,” the statement reads.

“New Hampshire adds value to the nominating process, and while President Biden and the DNC continue to push a plan of political convenience, they will not be successful in the end. We will continue to work together as a delegation and with state leaders to protect the primary and make sure New Hampshire’s law is followed,” it continues.

The statement concludes with the lawmakers bluntly and unapologetically assuring their DNC counterparts that “[n]o matter what party powerbrokers or those in Washington think, New Hampshire will once again host our first-in-the-nation contest as we have done for more than a century.”

Their argument was based on a state law that reportedly requires New Hampshire to hold the first presidential primary election.

“The DNC did not give New Hampshire the first-in-the-nation primary, and it is not theirs to take away. This news is obviously disappointing, but we will be holding our primary first,” New Hampshire Democrat Party chair Ray Buckley added in a separate statement.

Republicans have also been speaking out:

The amusing irony is that the DNC thinks it has pull.

“The DNC has given Georgia and New Hampshire until June to pass a law to comply with its request for the updated primary schedule,” according to The Hill.

Never mind that both states are fully controlled by Republicans who have zero interest in bowing down to the whims of their Democrat political enemies.

And FYI, these Republican dissidents are backed by the Republican National Committee as well.

“The RNC unanimously passed its rules over a year ago and solidified the traditional nominating process the American people know and understand. The DNC has decided to break a half-century precedent and cause chaos by altering their primary process, and ultimately abandoning millions of Americans in Iowa and New Hampshire,” RNC chair Ronna McDaniel said in a statement.

The DNC’s chicanery is also opposed by New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu.

“Joe Biden and the power brokers at the DNC in Washington think New Hampshire’s time is up, but it’s not in our DNA to take orders from Washington. New Hampshire will be going first in 2024,” he tweeted Saturday.
