Two Florida communities sponsored a “family friendly” pride festival that featured a drag queen event, a “kids zone” and a “banned book nook,” according to the event website.

Hollywood, Florida, and Broward County, Florida, helped put on the “Welcome Home, My Hollywood Pride” event on Jan. 29, according to the event website. The “family friendly” event included a “teen zone” that put on a drag queen question and answer session, and in the “kids zone” a “banned book nook,” featuring challenged books, hosted by the Broward County Hollywood Library and Safe Schools South Florida, a group working to empower LGBTQ students in schools.

Drag Queen Misty Eyez hosted a question and answer session for teenagers after hosting a story hour in the kids zone, the website showed. All kids and teen zone activities included SunServe chaperones, a group that works with the LGBTQ community on mental health.

Drag queen Velvet Lenore and her supporting cast put on two performances at the festival, the event website stated. The World AIDS Museum and Educational Center, a group focused on ending stigma around HIV and AIDS, and Randolph Ward, an artist putting on a performance about the effects of Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ “Parental Rights In Education” law, hosted a tent at the pride festival.

The international LGBTQ films “Legacy Couples Project,” a documentary about 14 queer couples, and Caoba, a film on safe spaces for homosexual men of color, were screened throughout the event, the website showed. A free cocktail hour and open bar followed the screening of the films.

Other sponsors of the “family friendly” pride festival included the Florida Cleveland Clinic, a non-profit hospital, Starbucks and Holy Cross Hospital, the event website stated.

Hollywood, Broward County and My Hollywood Pride did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
