Federal employees have already received a 4.6% bump this year from President Biden, but that’s not good enough for Democrats who are proposing another 8.7% raise on top of that because workers were subjected to the supposed cruelty of former President Trump during his administration and the pandemic.
The raises affect 2 million federal workers and would take effect in 2024.
“For years now, federal employees have risked their health and safety working on the frontlines of this pandemic,” Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) declared in a press release announcing that he and Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI) would reintroduce the Federal Adjustment of Income Rates for FAIR Act to Congress. It is unlikely to pass with Republicans now controlling the purse strings in the House of Representatives.
“They were subjected to the Trump Administration’s cruel personal attacks, unsafe work environments, pay freezes, government shutdowns, sequestration cuts, furloughs, and mindless across-the-board hiring freezes,” Connolly blathered in a statement that was released last week. “Still, our federal workforce serves with dedication and distinction every day. Federal employees are our government’s single greatest asset, and they deserve better.”
House Democrats proposed legislation this week that would give more than 2 million federal workers an 8.7% pay raise in 2024, a raise they say is needed because they suffered through both the COVID pandemic and the Trump administration.
DID YOU GET A 8.7% RAISE?

“Whether inspecting our food, conducting medical research or caring for our veterans, federal workers play an important role in our everyday lives and deserve pay which reflects that,” Schatz asserted.
Similar legislation has been introduced in the last three sessions of Congress, according to the New York Post. Despite that, the FAIR Act has been shot down every single time. This time around, the legislation has 23 co-sponsors but it is still almost certainly dead on arrival.
The FAIR Act is being promoted and supported by a number of unions and leftist organizations including the American Federal of Government Employees, the National Federation of Federal Employees, the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, the International Association of Fire Fighters, and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees.
for #Democrats like Connolly “Big(ger) Government” is always the answer, yet they want no accountability for themselves. they want #Federal workers to be able to “afford” this inflationary environment more than the rest of us

National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association President William Shackelford stated that raises are needed to “counteract a tightening labor market and increasing private-sector pay, rising costs of living and an impending federal retirement wave,” according to Fox News.
“The average 8.7 percent average raise they are proposing for 2024 will help federal employees keep up with rising costs, and help agencies recruit and retain the workers we need to keep the country running,” Tony Reardon, who is the national president of the National Treasury Employees Union asserted in a statement.
Randy Erwin, who is the president of the National Federation of Federal Employees, claims the raise is a minimal step toward making federal workers whole in the face of rising inflation, which many economists point out reflects rising government spending, according to Fox News.
“The 8.7% increase listed in the FAIR Act is not a pay raise,” he argued. “It is the minimum increase needed to offset the dwindling checking accounts of public servants, and it is critical to recruiting and retaining the best possible workforce.”
The 8.7% pay increase included in the FAIR Act will not only reward federal employees’ hard work and help them keep pace with inflation, but it will also help government agencies remain competitive and deliver high-quality services to the American public.

The calls for the massive pay raise come as Americans are suffering record-high 40-year inflation and are struggling to put food on their tables. Using Trump as a justification for the raises, especially as people can’t afford the basic necessities of living, is undoubtedly a losing proposition for Democrats.
