‘Outnumbered’ co-hosts react with horror to video of Paul Pelosi assault: ‘I saw you look away’

The co-hosts of Fox News’s “Outnumbered” averted their eyes, cringing in horror while watching the video of Paul Pelosi being brutally bludgeoned with a hammer by suspect David DePape when police came to the Speaker of the House’s San Francisco home.

The bodycam footage was released Friday afternoon by the San Francisco District Attorney’s office. It shows the moment that Pelosi’s attacker assaulted him with the hammer leaving him in a pool of blood, groaning. After seeing the apparent force used by the attacker, it is a wonder that he survived the assault in October.

The video shows police approaching the front door of the Pelosi residence and knocking. Paul Pelosi, 82, answers the door, holding a hammer with DePape while carrying a drink in his other hand. Police ask DePape to drop the hammer and he refuses. A struggle between Pelosi and DePape ensues and then the suspect can be seen swinging the hammer at him with full force, hitting Pelosi in the head. The aftermath shows both men on the floor as the officers call for an ambulance and backup.

The graphic footage visibly shocked the “Outnumbered” co-hosts. A number of them commented on just how violent the assault was. After playing the video for viewers, co-host Harris Faulkner apologized for not warning about the content prior to showing it.

“The producers are apologizing to me, but I want to apologize to you. We had no idea what that was going to look like, and that should have had a warning and a graphic warning before we showed it and then on screen,” she said.

Faulkner noticed that Fox Business host Lisa Kennedy had to avert her eyes when the attack took place in the video and asked her about it.

“I have a hard time seeing violence like that and that was just a natural reaction. I know it’s our job to look at those things and analyze them and take them in, but also the anticipation, we know it’s going to happen but I’m squishy in that sense,” she explained. “It’s hard for me to see things like that.”

Faulkner remarked, “Thank the Good Lord that [police] were there” and then turned to “Fox and Friends” co-host Todd Piro, who agreed, asserting that the police “followed every procedure that they should have.”

Nancy Pelosi said on Friday that she refuses to watch the footage of the hammer attack or listen to her husband’s distressed 911 call, according to the New York Post. She also reported that his recovery from a fractured skull is “coming along.”

“As you know, today there was a release of some information. I have not heard the 911 call. I have not heard the confession. I have not seen the break-in, and I have absolutely no intention of seeing the deadly assault on my husband’s life,” she told reporters at the Capitol. “I won’t be making any more statements about this case as it proceeds except to again, thank people and inform them of his progress.”

Addressing Nancy Pelosi’s refusal to look at the footage, Piro added on “Outnumbered,” “Nancy said she wasn’t sure she was going to watch it,” and then told her directly, “Don’t watch it.”

“We saw the windup of DePape, it was especially powerful. That’s partly what made this so graphic,” co-host Emily Compagno pointed out.

“The windup that he engaged was absolutely horrific and the police responded immediately. But that just goes to show that immediately is still a nanosecond slower than that force of the hammer, which we then saw the result to poor Paul Pelosi there,” she continued.

Compagno called it a “heinous, brutal attack” and asserted that she totally understood why Pelosi’s criminal defense team opposed releasing it to the public.

“I can see why the defense argued against it. It seems pretty clear that that was a heinous brutal attack that we just witnessed… That was an absolutely brutal attack,” she concluded.
