One-legged NYC man who allegedly attacked CVS workers, tried to urinate on NYPD, freed without bail

A one-legged man with an alleged history of violence is accused of whacking New York City CVS workers and New York police officers in the face with a metal padlock and then pulling out his willy and attempting to pee on the officers who managed to wrestle him to the ground on Lexington Avenue near East 87th.

The chaos started after Eutano Bernard, 41, allegedly tried to walk out of CVS with $65 of stolen merchandise, according to the New York Post. When employees tried to stop him, he allegedly clobbered them.

Bernard was eventually arrested and charged with robbery, two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, assault, resisting arrest, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing a police officer, authorities reported.

But, despite the fact that Bernard had been freed without bail on November 27 for allegedly hitting a 70-year-old man with an umbrella as he got an elevator at the Lexington Avenue and 86th Street subway station, he is back on the streets, once again released without bail.

Though Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has been widely criticized for his soft-on-crime policies, to their credit, prosecutors from his office asked at Bernard’s Thursday arraignment that bail be set at $20,000. He was granted supervised release and set free, much to the dismay of the Upper East Side community.

“That guy is very aggressive,” an employee who works in a shop near the CVS told The Post. “I had issues with him. He came in here yelling and screaming.”

When asked if she thought the disturbed man should have been released just a day after his latest outburst, the worker replied, “Of course not.”

“It gives [him] the opportunity to keep on doing it,” she said. “They just come back and do the same thing again and get more aggressive.”

The frustrated shop worker suggested his release is par for the course in the Big Apple.

“Do you know how many times [people] come in here and steal from us and nothing happens?” she asked.

One resident of the Upper East Side identified only as “Leah” called Bragg’s woke policies an outrage.

“By not doing anything you are making a statement that it’s okay to do whatever you want, to hit someone, to rob stores and you can get away with it,” she lamented.

“It makes me very angry,” she said, adding, “This is the state of New York City today.”

Meridith, 41, is a former teacher who lives across from the CVS. She said that, in recent months, the entire block has become dangerous, noting that not far from where Bernard urinated into the air, another man exposed himself “the other day.”

“I live across the street,” Meridith said, “and I don’t want my kids to go to the corner.”

She, too, believes those who commit crimes such as these get out of jail too quickly.

“That’s the problem,” she stated. “It happens all the time — they get out. They get arrested and they are out the next day or later that day.”

“It’s horrible,” the concerned mother said. “It’s terrible, it really is. It’s scary.”

Bernard was transferred to Metropolitan Hospital following his arrest for evaluation, The Post reports.

Meanwhile, the officers he allegedly assaulted sustained minor injuries, according to police, and were taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition.
