A federal judge sentenced the former Democratic mayor of a suburb of Portland, Oregon, to six months in federal prison for possessing child pornography involving kids under the age of 12.
Dennis ‘Denny’ Doyle, the former mayor of Beaverton, was also given 5 years probation and was ordered to pay $22,000 to his victims, according to The Oregonian — the penalty seemingly light for downloading child pornography at his home while still mayor. Doyle, who pleaded guilty to a single federal charge of possessing child pornography in October as part of a plea agreement, will be required to register as a sex offender.
“You know, we make mistakes,” the former mayor said at the time while leaving the courtroom.

“Doyle possessed digital material containing child pornography, including images depicting minors under 12, between November 2014 and continuing through December 2015,” the Oregonian reported at the time, citing prosecutors. “Several of the images included children who had been identified as sexually exploited minors by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, according to prosecutors.”
A local business found a flash drive containing the child porn photos and turned it over to the Beaverton Police Department.

“After the Beaverton Police Department referred the case to the FBI, special agents from FBI Portland’s Child Exploitation Task Force contacted Doyle at his home,” U.S. Attorney’s Office said, according to KOIN. “Doyle was immediately truthful with the agents, admitting the drive was his and that he had personally downloaded child pornography from his home computer.”
Doyle, who was convicted on a single charge of possession of child pornography, was elected mayor of Beaverton in 2008 and served three terms, before being defeated in 2020 in a runoff election. He was a city councilor for more than a decade beforehand.
The six-month sentence stood out to many on social media… here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
He didn’t get the deal the Ex-Seattle mayor enjoyed. He got away with everything, one man committed suicide before it was finished. Seattle picked up the mayor’s legal costs and sent him home with an incredibly generous retirement package.

6 months is a joke. Should be at least 6 years.

I love how blase pedos have become they just leave USB drives full of their crimes in public. Oops. I guess with a whopping 6 months of jail, there’s no real incentive not to.
