Arizona’s newly sworn-in Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs wasted little time managing to combine leftist hypocrisy and crisis politics into a package of little difference to what Republicans were already doing save for the likely increase in wasteful spending.
Throughout 2022, bleeding hearts lamented the measures taken by southern governors like Greg Abbott (R-TX), Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and now-former Gov. Doug Ducey (R-AZ) to mitigate the influx of illegal aliens by transporting volunteers to progressive sanctuary cities. The thousands redistributed across the country may not have made a dent considering the record millions that have entered the country since President Joe Biden was inaugurated, but it did force a conversation on the problem.
During a Friday press conference, Hobbs made clear that not only would she be continuing these measures as set forth by a new state contract, but she would be expanding them.”It’s something that provides support to those local communities,” she argued and said, “If we’re spending money to bus people, why not just get them to their final destination?”
Hobbs’ press secretary Josselyn Berry followed the governor’s announcement with a statement that said, “We’re sending migrants to cities they actually need to go to and be connected with their sponsors, and we are doing it in a more cost effective way by looking at all travel options, not just buses.”
In other words, rather than targeted bus rides to a number of specific cities close to the desired final destination of aliens who’ve come into the country illegally, Hobbs intends to take taxpayer dollars to grant these non-citizens a plane ticket to anywhere in the country. According to Arizona Central, Ducey’s bus trips had come at a cost of $82,000 per trip.
The new administration has reportedly set aside no less than $15 million for the alien relocation plan and estimates about $1 million per month will go toward busing.
Despite the compassionate sales pitch, critics couldn’t look beyond the fact that the repackaged bus plan was ultimately no different than what conservatives were getting slammed for by corporate media and Democrats at all levels, and therefore should receive an in kind treatment.
“So human trafficking then?” The Spectator’s Stephen L. Miller wrote in reaction to the headline as others followed suit.

Considering how Abbott and DeSantis had taken the most flack for the busing scheme with transporting illegals to progressive bastions like Washington, D.C., New York City, Chicago, and most famously Martha’s Vineyard, others suspected that Hobbs might aim to negate their efforts by transporting more of her problem to them.
She’ll probably send them to TX and FL.

It remains to be seen what the response will be when the first illegals courtesy of Hobbs roll into a progressive-run city, but if they’re anything like NYC Mayor Eric Adams (D), they will cry out, “There’s no more room at the inn,” as he had to Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) for sending aliens his way despite claims that, “Yes, New York City will remain a sanctuary city under an Adams administration.”
No matter the issue, the consensus appeared to be, “It’s OK when we do it.”
