White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre heatedly defended President Biden during her press conference on Wednesday, asserting that he is not in favor of banning gas stoves and that Americans have nothing to worry about despite Democrats increasingly pushing for just that.
“The president does not support banning gas stoves and the Consumer Product Safety Commission, which is independent, is not banning gas stoves,” Jean-Pierre answered in response to a question inquiring about the possibility of Biden coming after Americans’ gas stoves.
“When it comes to the question about safety or the effect of gas stoves, that is not something that we can speak to here at the White House,” she added.
Bloomberg reported on Monday that a ban was possible, quoting the Biden-appointed Consumer Product Safety Commissioner Richard Trumka Jr., who called gas stoves a “hidden hazard,” citing new research linking gas stoves to childhood asthma.

On Monday Trumka doubled down, tweeting, “My guiding duty is protecting consumer health and safety. Gas stoves can emit dangerous level of toxic chemicals – even when not in use – and @USCPSC will consider all approaches to regulation.”

“Any option is on the table. Products that can’t be made safe can be banned,” Trumka declared according to the Daily Mail. Besides a ban, other options include “setting standards on emissions from the appliances,” he noted.
Conservatives tore into the hypocrisy of the Biden administration over gas stoves and vowed that Americans would never give them up.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) nailed it in a tweet, taking aim at First Lady Jill Biden, “Rules for thee but not for me.”

He then retweeted Libs of TikTok, which did a montage of Jill Biden, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Vice President Kamala Harris all allegedly cooking with gas.

GOP Rep. Ronny Jackson was clear that he would never surrender his gas stove, “I’ll NEVER give up my gas stove. If the maniacs in the White House come for my stove, they can pry it from my cold dead hands. COME AND TAKE IT!!”

Then he shot off a volley of other tweets slamming the proposed move.
If that’s the case, the FIRST place they should ban gas stoves is at the White House! Biden can’t afford to lose ANY more of his cognitive abilities – he needs all the help he can get!! https://t.co/A3hKo3dyZW

Oh and I forgot, “Doctor” Jill Biden uses a gas stove too!!

If gas stoves were really a health hazard, would “doctor” Jill Biden be using one?? I think not.https://t.co/2DQMkP2ZIy pic.twitter.com/QSH3A72Ifj

187 MILLION Americans have gas stoves in their homes, and it will cost a FORTUNE to replace them. There's no "science" behind this. It's just another excuse Biden is trying to use to put MORE GOVERNMENT in your lives. HANDS OFF OUR STOVES!!https://t.co/2DQMkP2ZIy pic.twitter.com/xPxM5KwbKa

The Consumer Product Safety Commission attempted to walk back Trumka’s comments before the White House press briefing.
“To be clear, CPSC isn’t coming for anyone’s gas stoves. Regulations apply to new products,” Trumka tweeted Monday afternoon.
Thanks for your interest!

For Americans who CHOOSE to switch from gas to electric, there is support available – Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act which includes a $840 rebate. https://t.co/fcmWMSSfE5

The chairman of the commission, Alex Hoehn-Saric, echoed the apparent retraction, claiming on Wednesday morning that the independent agency was “not looking to ban gas stoves and the CPSC has no proceeding to do so.”
“CPSC is researching gas emissions in stoves and exploring new ways to address health risks. CPSC also is actively engage in strengthening voluntary safety standards for gas stoves. And later this spring, we will be asking the public to provide us with information about gas stove emissions and potential solutions for reducing any associated risks,” he asserted.
The CPSC has been considering action on gas stoves for months so the threat has been building. Trumka recommended in October that the commission seek public comment on the hazards associated with gas stoves, according to CNN.

Despite the partial walk-back and softening of rhetoric, leftists and the media are making it evident that banning gas stoves is the end goal here.
“And lawmakers in Washington recently argued that Black, Latino and low-income households are more likely to be affected by these adverse reactions, because they are either more likely to live near a waste incinerator or coal ash site or are in a home with poor ventilation,” CNN reported.
Thirty-five percent of households in the US use a gas stove, and the number approaches 70% in some states such as California and New Jersey according to the media outlet.
