Zelenskyy rushes to congratulate McCarthy, tells him Ukraine is ‘counting on your continued support’

With the marathon election for leadership of the new GOP House majority finally over and Kevin McCarthy officially assuming the role of Speaker of the House, there was much relief from his supporters within the political establishment, both in the United States and overseas with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy being among the first to offer congratulations.

Shortly after the formalities had been dispensed with and the gavel was formally passed to the beleaguered Republican by Democrat House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who first ripped the GOP up and down in a divisive and undignified speech, the scruffy defender of western democracy and recipient of billions of dollars in American taxpayer money took to Twitter to give McCarthy his props and to suggest that he expects the money to continue flowing his way regardless of who’s in charge of the House.

“Congratulations to @GOPLeader on his election as the Speaker of House of Representatives. U.S. support in all fields has been vital for ’s success on the battlefield. We’re counting on your continued support and further U.S. assistance to bring our common victory closer,” he wrote.

The former actor/comic who was vaulted into a starring role in world history after his country was invaded by Vladimir Putin’s Russia has become the equivalent of a global rock star with politicians and celebs making the pilgrimage to Kiev and earning him an invitation to make a pre-Christmas junket to Washington D.C. to visit the White House and to deliver a speech before a joint session of Congress during which McCarthy’s predecessor, Nancy Pelosi proudly displayed the blue and yellow Ukrainian flag with more enthusiasm than that of her own country.

Zelenskyy’s lack of decorum in not even having enough respect to shave and put on a suit and tie during the lovefest on in the nation’s rankled many, including Fox News host Tucker Carlson who tore into him for showing up to beg for money dressed like the “manager of a strip club.”

As could be expected given the Ukrainian leader’s lack of gratitude for the endless supply of money sent to his war-torn country at a time when Americans are reeling from an undeclared recession, staggering inflation, mass layoffs and continuing apathy toward their suffering from the political class, many took to Twitter to react to the greedy foreign ingrate’s expectation that he’ll be able to keep soaking the U.S. during McCarthy’s tenure.

Whether the money spigots remain open with the GOP now in charge of the purse strings remains to be seen but McCarthy has a golden opportunity to put Americans first.
