Internet sleuths who had been determined to identify the murderer of four University of Idaho students have not relented since a suspect has been arrested, and a viral video has them insisting the alleged killer had been walking among the mourners.
The Friday before New Year’s, 28-year-old Bryan Kohberger was arrested in Monroe County, Pennsylvania in connection to the fatal stabbings of Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Maddie Mogen that had taken place on November 13, 2022. Equipped with an identity, wannabe detectives have continued to scour publicly available footage and now believe that the suspect had attended a vigil held for the victims on two and a half weeks after they were killed.
In a video posted to TikTok, mourners could be seen gathering at a November 30 vigil that took place at the University of Idaho’s William H. Kibbie-ASUI Activity Center. The caption states, “The guy is in the blue coat walking into the vigil, many think is Bryan Kohberger. The profiles seem to be an exact match! The look and actions of pure evil … not insane … pure …. Evil!”

Another version of the video posted by the Daily Mail includes a red circle imposed over the figure that viewers believe could be the suspect and, at the time of this posting, the original clip had already been viewed more than two million times.
One Twitter user posted a side-by-side comparison of the zoomed in profile of the man seen at the vigil with an image of the suspect since his arrest and said, “Blue coat guy at the vigil seen walking in with his hands in his pockets… looks identical to Bryan Kohberger to me! The vigil was November 30th and Bryan attended classes the next day.”

Reactions to the comparison were mixed as some have agreed that the man at the vigil is indeed Kohberger while others were skeptical pointing out differences in the hairline and build.
They look similar, not identical. I highly doubt that it’s him.

Throughout the nearly seven weeks of investigation that led to the arrest, Moscow, Idaho police warned internet sleuths about the lengths they had been going to in an effort to identify a suspect suggesting that they could be setting themselves up for charges.
“What we want people to know is…that individuals who are being harassed in this situation, people need to be careful because some of it’s happening online, some of it’s happening through phone calls and in person, and people could be charged possibly in the future if it continues to a point where it reaches a criminal element,” Moscow Police Chief James Fry said.
“You know, there’s been a lot of speculation and rumors. And what we want to say is, we are the official source of information,” Fry added. “We want people to pay attention to what we’re putting out there because that is accurate information, and anything that comes from other sources is either rumor or speculation and we want to put an end to that as soon as possible.”
The last official release from police came on January 3 as they informed the public that Kohberger had waived his extradition in Pennsylvania accompanied by some of the upcoming steps in processing a felony case in Idaho.
