Proving once again why the Second Amendment is a good thing, two concealed carry permit holders in Pensacola, Florida, held at gunpoint a man who allegedly assaulted and shot at two women until police deputies could arrive and make the arrest.
Lee David Wilkerson, 38, allegedly hit one woman in the head with his firearm outside the Bingo Paradise bingo hall, after the woman and her female friend attempted to enter the establishment, according to a Facebook post from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
“He then began shooting in their direction and continued to fire into the parking lot as the victims fled,” the authorities state, adding that Wilkerson “then tossed the firearm in a nearby dumpster, but not his meth.”
Two citizens witnessed the altercation and pulled their weapons on the suspected shooter, preventing his escape.
Once on the scene, deputies reportedly recovered Wilkerson’s discarded gun from the dumpster and arrested him on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, firing a weapon in public, use/display of a firearm during a felony, aggravated battery/use of a deadly weapon, and trafficking of Methamphetamine.”
Fannie Stanford was at the bingo hall when the incident went down.
“I was sitting in the second row, right from the front door,” she told Fox10 News. “A young lady came inside, and she yelled. And I heard her say, they got a gun. She went back outside and there was pop.”
“The manager came, and he was ready,” Stanford continued. “He told all of us to get down. And we got down and headed towards the back. We all were secured in the back. We locked ourselves inside until it was over.”
Florida became a concealed carry state in 1987, but, as Bizpac Review reported, more and more states are no longer requiring their residents to hold a concealed carry permit if they wish to pack their weapons in public.
Indeed, with the removal of requirements in Alabama, Indiana, Georgia and Ohio in 2022, half the nation has done away with the permits.
“Over the last two years, 10 states have moved to permitless carry, including Utah, Montana, Iowa, Tennessee, Arkansas and Texas,” according to BizPac.
“Unlike states who are doing everything in their power to make it harder for law-abiding citizens, Alabama is reaffirming our commitment to defending our Second Amendment rights,” Republican Gov. Kay Ivey said in a statement after signing the state’s bill into law. “I have always stood up for the rights of law-abiding gun owners, and I am proud to do that again today.”

Republican Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed into law SB 319 in April 2022 and repealed the law that required residents to obtain a license and undergo a fingerprint background check.
“SB 319 makes sure that law abiding Georgians – including our daughters and your family, too – can protect themselves without having to ask permission from state government,” Kemp said at the time in a statement.
As for Fannie Stanford, Wilkerson isn’t about to put her off her game.
Thanks to the Paradise Bingo manager’s quick response and the Samaritans who held Wilkerson at bay, she’s not afraid to return for another shot at a coverall.
“Nothing is going to stop me from playing bingo,” she said.
