Harmeet Dhillon puts Ronna McDaniel’s horrible track record on display: ‘We can only go up from here’

Aspiring Republican National Committee chair Harmeet Dhillon on Thursday tore into current RNC chair Ronna McDaniel, attacking her so hard that she made wannabe House Speaker Kevin McCarthy look brilliant in comparison.

Appearing on Fox News’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” she also offered her own unique vision for the future.

“One thing that Kevin McCarthy has going for him actually is that he hasn’t failed for the last six years as the speaker of the House. I mean, that’s something that he has in his column. And I can’t say the same for the incumbent at the RNC. She’s a nice person, but over the last six years we’ve lost the House, the Senate, and the White House,” she began.

This is true. Under McDaniel, Republicans have lost power in every branch. Only during the most recent election did they finally regain the House — but only with the slimmest of margins.

“And worse than that, we have a sclerotic system at the RNC where members have almost no say. We don’t even get to take a look at a line item budget if you’re on the budget committee. And we seem to be sinking into this morass of failure and simply explaining it away as well, we made more voter contacts or we should get an A for effort in this election cycle, when in fact anybody who’s paying attention can see, you know, the emperor has no clothes,” Dhillon added.

As an example, she cited the way everybody has been blaming Republicans’ unexpectedly poor performance in the midterms on poor “candidate selection.”

But if this is true, she wondered, then what explains President Joe Biden, “the biggest liar in Washington”; John Fetterman, “who’s had some serious challenges even in articulating words”; and Katie Hobbs, “who wouldn’t even debate,” all winning?

“And so the excuses that are trotted out are frankly what’s embarrassing. It’s not embarrassing to have a leadership debate. It’s not embarrassing to bring up some of the failures. I think that’s actually good fiduciary policy at an organization, a healthy organization. But instead, you know, I’m getting criticized for running against the chair because it’s unseemly. But I think it’s actually exactly how democracy should work and how our constitutional republic should work,” Dhillon continued.

“So the same things that you’re seeing in D.C. on the McCarthy race, they’re some of the very same issues we have in the Republican National Committee, and it’s bubbling up because there’s been no debate for so many years,” she said.

Indeed, just as some Republicans want to oust McDaniel because they believe she’s performed poorly, some Republicans likewise want to oust McCarthy for the same reason.

But for some inexplicable reason, these dissenting Republicans are being pilloried by critics as “extremists” and “obstructionists” for daring to demand better from their leaders. Earlier in the broadcast, Fox News host Tucker Carlson played a clip of some of these critics and then blasted them as “morons.”

“The failure to make it super easy and simple for Kevin McCarthy is ‘extremism,’ declares Nicolle Wallace. It’s just ’embarrassing,’ says Ryan Zinke. It’s ‘pornography,’ says another. Poor old Charlie Sykes got so upset watching the proceedings that he compared a vote in Congress to an exploding hand grenade,” he said.

“Then another one of the buffoons in the clip you just saw went further and called the whole thing ‘terrorism,’ which is the remorseless use of violence against a civilian population to effect a political goal. So Chip Roy is Osama bin Laden now. Hunt him down in his cave,” he added about fellow Fox News colleague Ben Domenech.

Dovetailing back to Dhillon, she concluded her remarks by offering her vision for the future.

“I think we can only go up from here. We haven’t won the last several election cycles. I think if we sort of acknowledge our failures, tighten our belts, stop wasting donor money, focus like a laser on election integrity and making sure that we actually get people’s ballots into the ballot boxes, and then be more forward-looking on technology, involving younger voters, don’t patronize them, and finally cut out the middlemen of consultants who are running Congress and running the Republican National Committee, we will be so far ahead,” she said.

“Our ideas are superior. Our candidates are better. There’s no reason why we can’t win if we make the necessary changes and face the reality,” she added.
