George Santos’ claim mother was a victim of 9/11 doesn’t add up

Representative-Elect George Santos (R-NY) is finding himself in increasingly hot water after allegedly claiming that his mother died in the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center five months before he turned around and tweeted that she passed away in December 2016.

Santos has now been caught in numerous fibs the week before he is set to represent New York’s third congressional district. He now faces an investigation into his finances and the calls for him to resign are ratcheting up. They are not just coming from Democrats, either.

Journalist Yashar Ali dug up tweets from 2021 and aired them Wednesday night. He contrasted Santos’ claims side by side. Mediaite confirmed the authenticity of the tweets and they are evidently still up on Santos’ Twitter account.

Santos responded to an offensively named account called “9/11 was a victimless crime” by tweeting, “9/11 claimed my mothers life… so I’m blocking so I don’t ever have to read this again.”

Just five months later, Santos announced that his mother passed away in December 2016.

“December 23rd this year marks 5 years I lost my best friend and mentor,” he noted. “Mom you will live forever in my heart.”

His campaign website reads, “George’s mother was in her office in the South Tower on September 11, 2001, when the horrific events of that day unfolded. She survived the tragic events on September 11th, but she passed away a few years later when she lost her battle to cancer.”

It could be construed that Santos believes that the dust and exposure on 9/11 contributed to his mother’s cancer which took her life but the claims are just inconsistent enough on top of other lies that he’s being hammered over it. Not to mention the fact that 15 years after the fact does not “a few years” make.

Santos also claimed that he lost four of his employees in the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando. That was looked into by The New York Times and none of the 49 who perished in that deadly shooting appear to have any connection to his companies.

The newly elected New York representative’s problems started earlier in December when the New York Times revealed that his resume was basically a work of fiction. He reportedly never worked for Goldman Sachs and Citigroup as he claimed. There is also no record of him attending Baruch College. He even allegedly claimed to be Jewish but is now walking back that assertion as well.

His political woes continued on Wednesday when CNN reported that he never attended Horace Mann prep school.

A CNN investigation concluded that Santos lied about criticizing Goldman Sachs at the SALT private equity conference, which is run by Anthony Scaramucci. The company and Scaramucci both state there is no record of Santos’ attendance at the conference.

The media outlet is also reporting that Santos set up a GoFundMe account under a fake name.

Former Democrat Tulsi Gabbard ripped into Santos while she sat in for Fox News host Tucker Carlson, bluntly asking him, “Do you have no shame?”

As Santos repeatedly claimed that he made a mistake “embellishing” his resume, Gabbard didn’t let him off the hook.

“The thing is, congressman-elect, integrity means, yes, carrying yourself with honor, but it means telling the truth,” she informed him. “Being a person of integrity, if I were one of those in New York’s Third District right now, now that the election is over and I’m finding out all of these lies that you’ve told — not just one little lie or one little embellishment — these are blatant lies. My question is, do you have no shame? Do you have no shame in the people who are now — you are asking to trust you to go and be their voice for them, their families, and their kids in Washington?”

Santos deflected and went after the Democrats instead.

“I can say the same thing about the Democrats and the party,” he replied. “Look at Joe Biden. Joe Biden has been lying to the American people for 40 years, he is the president of the United States. Democrats resoundingly support him. Do they have no shame? I made this very clear, I made a mistake…”

“This is not about the Democratic Party, though,” Gabbard interjected. “This is about your relationship, frankly, with the people who entrusted you to go and fight for them.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) came out in defense of Santos and slashed at Gabbard for not giving him any “grace” during the interview.

“Tulsi Gabbard, who says she is a former Democrat, gave Rep-elect George Santos zero grace, while George is admitting and apologizing for lying about his resume, just like her former colleagues are giving George zero grace & even demanding he resign,” Greene tweeted.

Putting party affiliation aside, it is hard to defend someone caught in numerous lies that is about to take office.
