DeSantis office warns state will ‘act accordingly’ after venue ignored warnings over lewd ‘family’ drag show

When it comes to children watching sexually explicit drag queen Christmas shows, Florida isn’t playing around.

“This governor and our executive branch will not sit back while children or anyone else is harmed,” stated Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody on Thursday’s broadcast of “Fox & Friends First.”

The state, under the fearless guidance of Governor Ron DeSantis, has launched an investigation into “A Drag Queen Christmas” following the nationally-touring show’s stop in Fort Lauderdale on December 26. After video of the blatantly sexual “all-ages” performance hit social media, DeSantis’ office reminded the production and the venues that host it that “exposing children to sexually explicit activity is a crime in Florida.”

As American Wire reported, Bryan Griffin, press secretary to Gov. DeSantis, issued a statement on Tuesday which read, “The Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) is aware of multiple complaints about a sexually explicit performance marketed to children held in Fort Lauderdale on December 26th. The Department is actively investigating this matter, including video footage and photographs from the event. DPBR will, like in other cases, take action.”

“Exposing children to sexually explicit activity is a crime in Florida,” it continued, “and such action violates the Department’s licensing standards for operating a business and holding a liquor license.”

Ahead of the production’s Orlando show on Wednesday, DeSantis’ office fired off a letter of warning to the Plaza Live venue, in which it said that “sexually explicit drag show performances constitute public nuisances, lewd activity, and disorderly conduct when minors are in attendance.”

“Accordingly, Florida’s licensure laws provide strict penalties for licensees who allow minors to attend these drag shows at their licensed premises,” the letter, signed by the state’s Secretary of Business and Professional Regulation, Melanie S. Griffin, continued. “These penalties range up to and include revocation of the license pertaining to the licensed premises.”

“In short,” Griffin concluded, “if you allow children to attend the Drag Fans drag show at your facility, you are putting your license in jeopardy.”

“We’re going to look at [this case] very carefully and make sure we’re doing our jobs,” vowed AG Moody on Thursday morning. “That’s what people elected us to do.”

According to the governor’s office, any evidence gathered by Moody would be shared with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for potential criminal liability.

“When there are complaints being made, when there’s an allegation that children are being exposed to inappropriate material, whether that’s with a parent or not… that doesn’t exempt anyone – a parent or a business – from liability for such behavior,” asserted the former prosecutor and judge.

“This will come down to looking at particular facts and circumstances in the instances,” she added.

In Orlando, Plaza Live appeared to thumb its woke nose at DeSantis’ warning, and the controversial show went on as planned, with young children in attendance.

In an update to the disturbing story, Florida’s Voice tweeted, “Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office told Florida’s Voice the Department of Business & Professional Regulation will ‘act accordingly’ once its investigation is complete of the sexual drag show.”

“Press Secretary @BryanDGriffin said videos of children being spotted at the drag show with sexual performances will be investigated by the Department,” the outlet reported.
