NBC complains migrants fleeing communism find it easier to get asylum than others

NBC’s “Today” carped on Tuesday that those fleeing communist countries have a much easier time getting asylum in the US than others as the Supreme Court temporarily upheld Title 42 which allows the deportation of most illegal immigrants whether they are seeking asylum or not.

“It’s clear most of the people we speak with are from Venezuela or a handful of other countries. That’s partly because of how Title 42 is being applied, allowing asylum seekers from some countries but not from others,” NBC correspondent Sam Brock reported.

The insinuation was that those from communist countries are gaining entry much more easily than those from other countries.

While conversing with Dr. Josiah Heyman, the director at the University of Texas at El Paso’s Center for Inter-American and Border Studies, Brock intimated that it was “arbitrary which countries are getting a green light and which aren’t.”

“Absolutely. It absolutely is. Currently greenlighted Nicaragua and Cuba…” Heyman agreed. He stated that Venezuela was possibly in line to be greenlighted as well.

Despite the assertion that the countries are chosen arbitrarily, each of them has a communist government. A fact that almost certainly didn’t go unnoticed by NBC. America has a longstanding policy of accepting refugees from communist countries. Venezuela is arguably on the cusp of being communist if it isn’t already. Its flavor of socialism has undeniably ravaged the country’s economy.

“About a quarter to a third of all people coming to the border right now are currently being blocked by Title 42. And that’s with border crossings at their highest level this fiscal year, 2.76 million in modern history,” Brock stated unwittingly making the point that the Biden administration has utterly failed at handling the catastrophe at the border.

Attempting to play on Americans’ emotions, Brock showed the “battle scars” one illegal immigrant allegedly received from the drug cartels. What he didn’t acknowledge is that President Biden’s open border policies brought him to the border in the first place and left him at the mercy of the cartels.

“Cesar shows me the slashes on his wrist he says came from Mexican cartels trying to extort him for money as he waited to cross the border. We asked him why he and his group have been waiting for months. ‘We’ve been waiting for October because we believed in the President of the United States,’ he tells me. ‘That an opportunity to come to America legally on December 21st would happen,'” Brock recounted.

Then he charged that the prolonging of Title 42 by the Supreme Court was causing “distress all over the streets of El Paso and the thousands camping out.” In the end, he did admit that “there will absolutely be a surge for the first month or two” if and when Title 42 is lifted.

Unfortunately for the leftist media and Democrats, Tuesday’s Supreme Court ruling means the protections of Title 42 will remain in place for at least the next several months. The Supreme Court ruled 5 to 4 to maintain Title 42, which is a Trump-era policy that allows immigration officials to quickly expel migrants for public health due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Justices John Roberts, Samuel Alito, Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett, and Clarence Thomas agreed to hear a challenge from Republican-led states during the February 2023 argument session, according to Fox News.
