U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., a member of Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s politically motivated select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 protest at the U.S. Capitol, appeared on CBS News’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday to praise the “democratic spirit” in America while calling the Electoral College a “danger” to democracy.
The segment opened with host Margaret Brennan all but celebrating the one-sided panel’s “incredible body of work,” before offering Raskin the floor to explain to Americans what they “need to know.”
“It’s a story of some real villainy and some real danger to democracy, but also of real heroism and commitment to American democratic freedom,” he replied. “And with democracy under attack all over the world, like with Putin invading Ukraine and the Ukrainian people standing up for their democratic freedom, and tyrants and autocrats on the march everywhere, it’s good to know that we have a strong, resurgent democratic spirit in America.”
Buying in on the Democrat’s talking points, Brennan proclaimed, “The institutions held.”
When asked what’s next, Raskin countered her observation to say our institutions “did hold just barely,” before adding, “The truth is that we need to continually be renovating and improving our institutions.”
“I think that the Electoral College now, which has given us five popular vote losers as president in our history, twice in this century alone, has become a danger, not just to democracy, but to the American people,” the left-leaning ideologue explained.
Much like our wide open border, if a Democrat is calling for the end of the Electoral College you can bet the farm they expect the outcome to benefit their party — in this case, it would allow states with densely populated urban areas controlled almost exclusively by the Democratic Party to dictate the outcome of presidential elections and effectively render more rural states inconsequential.
“It was a danger on January 6. There are so many curving byways and nooks and crannies in the Electoral College, that there are opportunities for a lot of strategic mischief,” Raskin said. “We should elect the president the way we elect governors, senators, mayors, representatives, everybody else: Whoever gets the most votes wins.”
He even cited Thomas Jefferson, the author of the Declaration of Independence, in making his case to undermine the Constitution, saying Jefferson “deplored the sanctimonious reverence with which some people look at the original handiwork of the framers when they should be looking to their own experience.” On that note, Raskin added, “And we know that the Electoral College doesn’t fit anymore.”
Brennan offered no counter to Raskin calling the Electoral College that served the nation for over two centuries a danger to the American people, or any mention of our republic form of government that is designed to prevent mob rule by giving every state a voice.
Trent England, the founder of Save our States, an organization dedicated to defending the Electoral College, responded to a CNN tweet boosting Raskin’s maneuvering to say his claims are “historically ignorant.”
“This is historically ignorant. In 1824, JQA would almost certainly have had the most popular votes if every state had a popular vote. In 1876, nobody knows who really got the most votes (see also 1960),” England tweeted.

Democrats hate the Constitution.

Our Founders foresaw cynical elected leaders like Rep @jamie_raskin, how they would attempt to manipulate the election system, and set up the Electoral College to assure the Raskins are unable to subvert the Republic.
Raskin knows this. He’s subversive as Hell but he’s no dummy.

This is sedition. Raskin swore to protect & defend the Constitution, not undermine it.

Of course it has. It always has.
Literally its purpose.
Democracy is mob rule, and we are not a democracy. We are a Representative Republic.
Democracies always fail, just like socialism and communism.
Its history folks! Study it.

The EC didn’t change, Rep. Raskin, people did, y’all did, we did….the system works, we are broken….
