Fauci claims ‘misinformation and disinformation’ are costing people their lives

Daily Caller News Foundation

Dr. Anthony Fauci claimed Wednesday that “misinformation or disinformation” about COVID-19 vaccines could have fatal consequences for people who elect not to receive the shots.

“If people don’t get vaccinated, which unequivocally is lifesaving, because of political ideology, or because of misinformation and disinformation, that costs us lives,” Fauci told CNN host Kate Bolduan. “And we just got to get the American public regardless of whether you lean left you lean right, it doesn’t matter at all. We’re all in this together. We’re all human beings. And we’re all susceptible to disease that can kill us.”

WATCH:

Fauci announced he was retiring as chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden Aug. 22. His tenure as NIAID director was marred with criticism over decisions made during the COVID pandemic, particularly an early statement where he said masks were not necessary, which he later reversed, according to The New York Times.

“So if ever there was a time in society when we need to pull together and recognize that the common enemy is the virus, not each other, we’ve got to get people to appreciate that,” Fauci, whose net worth reportedly climbed by $5 million during the pandemic, said. “You know, I said, I don’t have an easy answer how we’re going to do that, but when people’s lives are being lost about this, maybe that’ll shake people up enough to realize that we’ve got to start pulling together and not against each other.”

Fauci has faced questions about the National Institute of Health’s funding of so-called “gain of function” research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), which is located near where the COVID-19 pandemic emerged and has been theorized by multiple experts as the likely source of the outbreak. Fauci downplayed the theory that COVID-19 emerged from the lab, but emails from February 2020 show he expressed concern about a leak from a laboratory.
