Father of slain Idaho student details horrific wounds, calls police ‘cowards’ as killer roams free

It’s been four weeks since four University of Idaho students were found brutally murdered in their home, and Steven Goncalves, father of victim Kaylee Goncalves, has shared more horrific details of his daughter’s death, revealing that Kaylee suffered “big open gouges” to her body, the demonic work, he is convinced, of a “sadistic male.”

He called the Moscow, Idaho, police “cowards” for not being more transparent with the public.

Desperate for more information, Goncalves asked coroner Cathy Mabbutt how many times Kaylee, 21; her best friend, Madison Mogen, 21; Xana Kernodle, 20; and her boyfriend, Ethan Chapin, 20, were stabbed.

“She says, sir, I don’t think stabs is the right word, it was like tears, like this was a strong weapon, not like a stab,” Goncalves told Fox News Digital.

“She said these were big open gouges,” he continued. “She said it was quick.”

“These weren’t something where you were going to be able to call 911,” he explained. “They were not going to slowly bleed out.”

Moscow police, the FBI, and Idaho State Police are working together to solve the quadruple murder, but have yet to name a suspect or locate the murder weapon, which they believe to be a fixed-blade knife.

As American Wire News previously reported, Kaylee was found in bed on the third floor of the residence, lying next to her best friend, Mogen.

As the murderer could have entered and exited the home without going upstairs or downstairs but chose to go upstairs, Goncalves believes Kaylee and/or Mogen may have been the targets of the monster’s rage.

While he can’t know for sure, he told Fox News Digital, “I have my own suspicions.”

Kaylee’s wounds “definitely did not match” Mogen’s, Goncalves said.

“They may have individually died from the exact same thing, being stabbed, but there are more details,” he said. “They’re not even close to matching.”

Kaylee’s liver and lungs were torn open with the killer’s knife, he said.

The two girls were likely killed in Mogen’s bedroom, Goncalves believes, because “there are photos of Kaylee’s room with no blood on the bed.” Also, the investigators didn’t bother to cover Kaylee’s bedroom windows as they did for the other victims, he said.

Mabbutt told the father that his daughter died quickly, but, given the state of the crime scene, he isn’t so sure.

Kernodle and Chapin were found on the second floor of the three-story residence, and Kernodle’s body showed signs of defensive wounds.

“It was a hell of a battle going on down there from what the coroner told us,” Goncalves said.

Though Mabbutt said the suspect was a “strong individual,” police have not yet specified the killer’s gender — a fact that infuriates Goncalves.

“I got outraged by them not just coming out and saying this was a woman or a man because they should know by the amount of strength it took to deliver the injuries,” he said.

“They’re just being cowards,” he continued. “There are girls walking around the street right now that deserve to know. They should be looking out for a sadistic male.”

In a statement, Moscow Police public information officer Robbie Johnson said the department won’t comment on or release any specific details of the murders and called for patience.

“It is what we must do to preserve the integrity of the investigation,” he said. “We want more than an arrest. We want justice. It takes time to do it right.”
