Houston police and fire department personnel responded to the home of Sen. Ted Cruz Tuesday night after receiving a call concerning a 14-year-old girl with self-inflicted knife wounds on her arms who was then transported to a hospital.

Police were seen outside of the senator’s home in River Oaks at approximately 8 pm. Cruz was reportedly not at home at the time. He is currently in Washington, D.C., according to the Daily Mail.
A spokesperson for Cruz told reporters that the incident was a “family matter” and that the senator’s daughters were okay, according to ABC 13. Police could not confirm if the girl was a member of Cruz’s family but many assume it was his 14-year-old daughter Caroline.
“This is a family matter, and thankfully their daughter is okay. There were no serious injuries. The family requests that the media respect their daughter’s privacy at this time,” a friend of the family told ABC 13.
There was “no criminal activity” at the home and it was “not a family violence issue,” according to police.

Ted Cruz has two daughters named Catherine, who is 11, and Caroline, who is 14.
It is unknown if Cruz will return home following the incident, according to KHOU 11. But it is almost a certainty considering that the senator is a devoted husband and father and puts his family above all else. The Cruz family has not released a statement on the matter yet.
The senator has been mired in D.C. addressing a potential rail strike as well as fighting in favor of constitutional matters, especially free speech. He is also a pit bull when it comes to illegal immigration. But despite having a full docket, Cruz has always put his family first.
Cruz’s daughter Caroline came out as bisexual in January when she was 13, according to media reports. They played up that the girl allegedly disagreed with her father’s politics and splashed it all over the news.
According to media reports, Caroline stated that people judged her because of her father’s politics despite the fact that she often disagrees with his conservative stances.

“A lot of people judge me based upon him at first glance,” she reportedly remarked in a TikTok video. “But I really disagree with most of his views.”
Caroline also seemed upset about being in the public eye and criticized Cruz’s media team for editing the length of her shirt on the family Christmas card.
Her TikTok account has since been made private after being barraged by questions about what it is like to be Cruz’s daughter. People took screenshots of her bio before the account went private showing that she used the personal pronouns she/her and indicated that she was bisexual.
It was reported that someone asked Caroline about her sexuality and if she had told her dad about it yet. She replied, “I haven’t told him yet, I’m kinda nervous to tbh but I don’t think he would be mad about it.”
Thoughts and prayers flowed in for the Cruz family and of course, there was the requisite hate as well:

To clarify, it appears as though Ted Cruz's 14 year old daughter Caroline has attempted suicide. Nobody likes Ted Cruz but let's keep it respectful for the child, please.

I am Democrat, but am human first. It’s not about Ted Cruz the politician. He’s a father first. I recently lost my son to suicide and wouldn’t wish this pain on ANY parent, regardless of political party. Be better humans. Show some grace. I pray she gets the help she needs 🙏🏼

It takes immense courage to be yourself. Devastated to wake up to the news of @tedcruz daughter’s attempt on her own life. Please pray for this family. It’s awful and the time to be human about this and so many things is now overdue.
