‘Yeah, no kidding’: Alec Baldwin’s wife says they are ‘not okay’ one year after tragic ‘Rust’ shooting

According to Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin’s wife, Hilaria, both she and her husband are still struggling to deal with the accidental shooting death of Baldwin’s colleague, Halyna Hutchins.

“We’re not okay. We can’t be okay. No one’s okay. It was and is a tragedy that nobody could ever have imagined,” she said this week in an interview with Extra, as reported by People magazine.

As previously reported, Hutchins died during the recording of the film “Rust” in October of 2021 when Baldwin accidentally pulled the trigger of a supposed “prop gun” that’d been in his hands.

After the shooting, Baldwin appeared to suggest the gun had just magically went off on its own, but an investigation by the FBI found otherwise:

“Accidental discharge testing determined that the firearm used in the shooting — a .45 Colt (.45 Long Colt) caliber F.lli Pietta single-action revolver — could not have fired without the trigger being pulled,” ABC News reported in August, citing an FBI report.

“With the hammer in the quarter- and half-cock positions, the gun ‘could not be made to fire without a pull of the trigger,’ the report stated. With the hammer fully cocked, the gun ‘could not be made to fire without a pull of the trigger while the working internal components were intact and functional,’” according to ABC News.

“With the hammer de-cocked on a loaded chamber, the gun was able to detonate a primer ‘without a pull of the trigger when the hammer was struck directly,’ which is normal for this type of revolver, the report stated,” ABC News added.

In other words, Baldwin pulled the trigger — either by accident or on purpose — of the gun that killed Hutchins.

Despite the FBI’s report, charges have yet to be filed, and Baldwin continues to maintain his innocence. However, two months ago he and the producers of “Rust” accepted an unusual settlement agreement with Hutchins’ family:

“Rust Movie Productions LLC and its Rust star and producer Alec Baldwin have reached a settlement with the estate of slain cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. As part of the peace, her husband Matthew Hutchins will executive produce Rust, which will return to production in January 2023 with the original cast,” Deadline reported.

“The Hutchins family had filed a wrongful death lawsuit February 15 over the shooting of Hutchins that occurred on the set of the in Western on October, 21, 2021, when Baldwin discharged a prop gun after being informed by the production’s assistant director David Halls that the weapon was ‘cold,'” according to Deadline.

In a statement, Hutchins’ husband said he wasn’t interested in playing the blame game and just wanted to finish the film “Rust.”

“I have no interest in engaging in recriminations or attribution of blame (to the producers or Mr. Baldwin). All of us believe Halyna’s death was a terrible accident. I am grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna’s final work,” he said.

But a month after the settlement, Baldwin turned around and sued the armor and crew of “Rust” for having given him a loaded “prop gun.”

“The actor Alec Baldwin filed a lawsuit on Friday against several people associated with the film ‘Rust’ — including its armorer and first assistant director — accusing them of negligence for giving him a loaded gun on the set that fired, killing its cinematographer,” The New York Times reported last month.

“His suit names Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film’s armorer, who was in charge of handling guns and ammunition on set; Dave Halls, the first assistant director, who handed the gun to Mr. Baldwin that day and declared it safe; Sarah Zachry, the crew member in charge of props; and Seth Kenney, who has been described as the primary supplier of guns and ammunition to the film set,” the Times added.

“This tragedy happened because live bullets were delivered to the set and loaded into the gun,” the lawsuit bluntly reads.

Dovetailing back to what Hilaria said, few among the public appear to feel any sympathy and compassion for the Baldwins.
