Irked over rejection, Sen. Markey tries to renew ‘feud’ with Elon Musk: ‘He’s just not that into you’

In many cases, the progressive left’s shift toward authoritarianism has been more ham- than iron-fisted and after Elon Musk seemingly ignored a demand from Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) to explain how the now-private company is run, the lawmaker’s jilted follow-up led to widespread ridicule.

The coordinated effort from progressives to reclaim control of their social media echo chamber couldn’t be more blatant. As the billionaire has worked in real-time to course correct the mistakes of previous administrators and innovate based on user experience, detractors have worked collectively to undermine his efforts by shirking the rules and spamming the platform.

As such, Markey had issued a letter with a Friday deadline demanding answers from Musk about the new work-in-progress verification process that a Washington Post reporter had taken advantage of to impersonate the senator to prove a point. Saturday, without a direct reply from the ‘Chief Twit,’ Markey quote tweeted his original post that read, “A [Washington Post] reporter was able to create a verified account impersonating me–I’m asking for answers from [Elon Musk] who is putting profits over people and his debt over stopping disinformation. Twitter must explain how this happened and how to prevent it from happening again.”

The tweet was captioned, “[Musk] could respond to my tweets but failed to respond to my letter by yesterday’s deadline and answer basic questions about Twitter verification. Congress must end the era of failed Big Tech self-regulation and pass laws that put user safety over the whims of billionaires.”

As reported, Musk had originally responded to Markey’s demands with derision and offered an explanation for how the impersonation had occurred by tweeting, “Perhaps it is because your real account sounds like a parody?”

Early Friday morning, though not directly to the Massachusetts senator, Musk had also stated a tentative launch of “Verified” would be taking place on Dec. 2. “Gold check for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates. Painful, but necessary.”

Evidently, that wasn’t good enough for the “authoritarian” and after the senator treated the lack of a direct answer to push for a power grab, users mocked Markey by suggesting Musk’s “just not that into you.”

Others suggested his concern for the law should be accompanied by respect for the law and that Musk should have told him exactly what to do with his demands.

Conveniently, the senator’s Friday deadline and Saturday push for new laws coincided with a spamming effort from leftists like Trump impeachment star, retired Army Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, who experienced some ridicule all his own after he was put on blast for his post stating, “Kinda weird that @elonmusk gets to decide how like a half-billion people communicate. Way too much power for one erratic individual to wield, don’t you think?”

Musk responded after it was revealed Vindman had been one of a myriad of users to share the identical smear, “Vindman is both puppet & puppeteer. Question is who pulls his strings … ?”

It remains to be seen what actions Markey may take next following Musk’s lack of response, but the senator had expressed in an interview on “The Mehdi Hasan Show” before the deadline that, “They will pay a price if they don’t put safeguards in place at Twitter.”
