In their lustful pursuit of a narrative, it seems liberals never learn their lessons.
Time after time, the left-leaning media and pundits on social media have tripped over themselves in their rush to declare a crime the fault of hateful “extreme” conservatives, only to have their accusations blow up in their shameless faces when the actual facts come out.
Take, for example, VERS, a trendy gay bar in New York City, which has in recent days had its windows assaulted on four occasions by a white man throwing bricks.
NYC Council Member Erik Bottcher was all over that appalling story.
“These are hate crimes against the LGBTQ+ community,” he quickly tweeted. “Please help us identify him.”

“The epidemic of anti-LGBTQ+ violence is national,” declared Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine. “A well-known gay bar on Manhattan’s west side has been attacked repeatedly in recent weeks. We can not stand for this.”

One would-be Nancy Drew tried to finger Republican New Mexico gubernatorial candidate Mark Ronchetti for the crimes, while another pointed to former United States Secretary of the Treasury under former President Donald Trump Steven Mnuchin.
And even if it wasn’t Mnuchin, argued a third internet sleuth, it’s clearly a Mnuchin supporter because… same glasses.

Same glasses. Probably not coincidental. He admires the Munch.

Thankfully, NYPD made an arrest before the dimestore detectives lit their tiki torches.
The man charged with the crime is 34-year-old Sean Kuilan, and it turns out, he’s not being charged with a hate crime after all.
The reason?
Well, take it from the horse’s mouth.
“I’m gay myself,” Kuilan said as officers led him, handcuffed, into court on Tuesday night, according to the New York Post.
According to NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig, this wasn’t about “hate.”
“Basically, what he says [is] he knows a girl who had a problem with one of the guys in the bar and he was ‘exacting revenge,’” Essig said. “As of right now we don’t have any reason to believe it is [a hate crime].”
Kuilan, who already had a warrant out on him in a Sept. 2021 menacing case, said he hurled the bricks because of “something personal.”
Nicknamed the “Paper Kid,” Kuilan was known in the neighborhood. With the help of tips to the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline, he was tracked down and arrested by members of the department’s warrant squad.

Sean Kuilan (34) of Manhattan was arrested after a tip from the community led investigators to him. Our Warrants Squad then made a swift apprehension. We thank all the upstanders and conscionable New Yorkers involved.https://t.co/yj4FAhPLPW— NYPD Hate Crimes (@NYPDHateCrimes) November 22, 2022
In the September case, the suspect allegedly pulled a knife on his victim and asked, “Are you okay with dying?”
Thankfully, in the VERS case, no one was injured. The owner, David DeParolesa had installed shatterproof glass in anticipation of anti-gay attacks.
Even with Kuilan’s arrest, DeParolesa is still hesitant to believe the news.
“I am really happy that the case is moving forward and that the detectives on the case have been diligent and that there’s progress,” he told The Post. “I really do hope it’s just this one person and that we can close the book — I’m uncertain it is.”
He points to what he believes is a hole in Kuilan’s story.
“There’s no girl,” he said. “Truly no idea what he’s talking about.”
