CNN analyst says ban on men under 25 owning firearms ‘will limit the number of mass killings’

In yet another knee-jerk grab for the Constitution, CNN National Security Analyst Juliette Kayyem is calling for the ban of modern-sporting rifles for young men under the age of 25 in response to the Colorado Springs mass shooting at a gay club.

Her call comes on the heels of remarks from President Joe Biden, who, from a home in Nantucket, Mass., demanded “an assault weapons ban to get weapons of war off America’s streets.”

Speaking to CNN anchor Erica Hill, Kayyem encouraged the idea of trashing the Second Amendment.

“Okay, so you first keep trying to ban them,” she stated. “In other words, the political momentum is clearly showing that Independents and generation lockdown, who came out in numbers this last election, may continue to come out on this issue. So, they are viewing gun legislation as seriously as pro-gun advocates have been viewing it.”

Barring that, she explained, grabbing the guns from the hands of young men who are old enough to hold a gun in defense of this nation, is the next best thing.

“The second is, of course, the delay in ages,” she continued. “I would like to get these weapons off the street, but in the short-term, if you could get both state or national legislation to prohibit 18- to 25-year-olds or 21-year-olds from purchasing this weaponry, you will limit the number of mass killings.”

“Again, we’re not going to stop everything, but why wouldn’t you try to — to at least try to get things safer than they have been?” she added. “And the data is just clear, just looking at the data, that 18- to 25-year-old male bracket, they should not be having these guns, period. There is just no reason to.”

Well, there’s hunting — a sport, and at times, a necessity, in which many young men participate.

And if putting food on the table isn’t enough of a “reason,” there’s that pesky American document that states quite clearly that the right to bear arms “shall not be infringed.”

Then there’s that whole “don’t discriminate based on sex” thing we like to adhere to in this country.

But, should those arguments fail to shoot down Kayyem’s progressive plan, there’s this, from Townhall’s Julio Rosas: “Not all mass shootings are carried out by AR-15s as the shooting at a Chesapeake Walmart was perpetrated by a manager using a handgun. Mass shootings in cities such as Chicago and Philadelphia often feature handguns as well, commonly using a ‘switch’ modification that makes the handguns automatic.”

Naturally, Hill didn’t push back against Kayyem with any of those points, because that, evidently, would just be crazy.

And, if we’re being honest, why should a liberal anchor of a liberal network stand in the way of a liberal agenda, when the president of the United States has no problem using a crisis to push it?

“The idea we still allow semi-automatic weapons to be purchased is sick,” he said. “Just sick. It has no socially redeeming value. Zero. None. Not a single solitary rationale for it except profit for the gun manufacturers.”

As one sane user on Twitter put it, Kayyem represents “another ‘expert’ who hasn’t a clue about what they speak.”
