Kid Rock fighting demolition of Hank Williams’ home: I’m ‘sick of seeing history torn to the ground’

Kid Rock is incensed over the potential demolition of country legend Hank William’s historic Tennessee antebellum home, telling Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Tuesday that he’s “sick of seeing history torn to the ground.”

The home is called Beechwood Hall and is located near Franklin, Tenn. It was built in the 1850s and survived the Civil War intact. It was also owned at one time by country music stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.

Kid Rock is calling on others to speak out against the destruction of Beechwood Hall and advocate for its preservation.

“So, you have your own house. Why are you interested in this house and what happens to it?” Carlson asked the singer.

“I think like so many other people in this country, we’re sick of seeing history torn to the ground. Whether it be in the form of monuments, statues, and now something so important here in Nashville like the former home of Hank Williams, Beechwood Hall. I might also note the former owner Tim McGraw and Faith Hill,” Kid Rock responded.

“You know, where’s this end? We kind of all knew that from the beginning once this fiasco started, there’s never going to be an end and now we kind of feel like we’re under an invasion from the state of California which we understand in a lot of ways… have a lot of friends who come here from these spots, California and New York City. And this kind of has to do with the house because we feel that a lot of people are saying it under their breath, but they’re scared to say it aloud, so once again, I’ll be the guy,” he continued.

“They come here leaving these woke policies from the cities, you know, for better schools, lower taxes, lower crime. … We kind of tell them leave your f’ing politics at the state from which you’re coming. And this is just one more example of somebody from California who, as I understood, gave a handshake to the people in the community and through this foundation he’s a donor for,” the rock musician remarked.

He went on to charge that the maneuver by the new owners is another avenue to tear the home down. Kid Rock doesn’t think there is anything more important in American or country music than Hank Williams and the home represents the legendary singer/songwriter. He called those who want to move to a new place and tear down history, “dumb liberals.”

“I think there’s going to be many, many people [who] will get on board. They can go to savebeechwood.org, and I think you will see a lot more country music stars, musicians, just great people in the community that want to preserve this for the next generation to come. Generations beyond that,” he stated.

Fund manager Larry Keele bought the 268-acre estate in 2021 according to Fox News. Williamson County residents fear that the home could be razed at some point.

A non-profit preservation organization called The Heritage Foundation of Williamson County declared in a statement that it is working in a “collaborative and positive manner” with the new owners of the estate to “create a comprehensive preservation plan, and bring resources and solutions to the table for discussion.”

Keele denied there are any plans for the demolition of the home in the statement, “Contrary to misinformation that is being published, no historical items have been placed in any burn pile and there is no scheduled demolition.”

He noted that the home had been vacant for a number of decades and was in a “deteriorated state” when he and his wife purchased the property.

Architects have visited the home to make suggestions on how it could be restored to resemble the original Beechwood Hall, Keele claimed. He admitted that the “rear 1970s addition” was removed because it was “not historical.”

Activists fighting for the historic home are seeking to stop the demolition of the residence. They are asserting that the architects are “carefully selected experts” who want to “create a perception that the property is ‘too far gone’ to be restored.”
