New Twitter boss Elon Musk announced Monday night that the social media platform is postponing the rollout of its Blue Verified checkmark system until the company comes up with a better plan to combat imposter accounts.
Since taking over at Twitter in the interest of preserving free speech in the town square, Musk has met a wall of resistance from the left. At the same time, there seems to be a sudden rash of imposter accounts as Musk tries to even the playing field by allowing average users a process to acquire the coveted “blue check,” an exercise that has incensed many of those who currently have verified accounts who seem to like a class system — so long as they remain in the upper class.
“Holding off relaunch of Blue Verified until there is high confidence of stopping impersonation. Will probably use different color check for organizations than individuals,” Musk tweeted.

As Musk plays with the system in the hopes of creating a better product — he has said previously that Twitter was losing $4 million a day — the intolerant left have made it clear that they do not adapt well to change. The irony here being that they call themselves “progressives.”
There has been considerable harping as Twitter toyed with the idea of using gray checkmark badges for official government accounts before nixing the idea, and developing an $8 subscription service that came with a blue checkmark. The latter service is also being halted amid an explosion of impersonator accounts.
It’s clear that there’s little Musk can do with Twitter that will appease the left, given his evenhanded approach. His every move is roundly criticized and there looks to be an ongoing campaign to undermine and otherwise destroy Twitter — sound familiar? — by claiming the billionaire is creating a dangerous platform that allows hate, harassment and disinformation.
The reinstatement of Donald Trump’s account over the weekend only added fuel to the fire. The former president has yet to tweet, but Musk ran a poll asking Twitter users to weigh in on Trump’s fate while vowing to abide by their wishes. After more than 15 million votes, reinstating Trump prevailed.
All the hoopla over changes to the Blue Verified checkmark system has exposed an elitist quality among those who have no desire to mix with the great unwashed.
Here are but a few examples of this from Twitter:
How about a different color for those who paid for Twitter Blue but were not actually verified (but open up a process of verification for Twitter Blue subscribers).
Verified should actually mean verified. https://t.co/bFDjFimndh

verification will be relaunched as soon as the lords set up some sort of peon-verification system — those born to the purple will perhaps receive some sort of special crown or regalia to denote lineage https://t.co/Nh0jJMeada
