Pence predicts ‘better choices’ than Trump as he teases White House run

Former Vice President Mike Pence has been hitting the media circuit as he promotes his new book and teases a possible White House run, and he’s letting it all hang out when it comes to his former boss as the GOP establishment seeks to move on from Donald J. Trump.

In a clip from Pence’s interview with ABC News that aired on Monday, the ex-veep said that voters will have “better choices” than Trump in 2024, remarks that are making headlines on the day that the former president is expected to formally declare his candidacy.

With the midterm elections being a major disaster for Republicans whose hopes of a “red wave” were already doused even before counting in several western states went into overtime, the knives are definitely out for Trump who is being blamed for the GOP failure to win significant majorities in both houses of Congress after a number of high profile candidates that he endorsed went down to defeat, most notably Dr. Mehmet Oz who was thrashed by incapacitated John Fetterman in Pennsylvania’s Senate race.

When asked by ABC’s David Muir whether the America First leader should be president again, Pence carefully chose his words.

“I think that’s up to the American people,” Pence said, pausing for effect. “But I think we’ll have better choices in the future.”

“The people in this country actually get along pretty well once you get out of politics,” he continued. “And I think they want to see their national leaders start to reflect that same, that same compassion and generosity of spirit. And I think, so in the days ahead, I think there will be better choices.”

“Better choices than Donald Trump?” Muir asked.

“And for me and my family, we will be reflecting what our role is in that,” he said, not providing a direct answer while leaving open the possibility that the better choice that he is referring to may be himself.

“Will you run for president in 2024?” Muir inquired, trying to pin the devoutly Christian Pence down.

“We’re giving it consideration in our house,” he said. “Prayerful consideration.”

“Do you believe you can beat Donald Trump?” Muir asked.

Pence responded, “Well that would be for others to say, and it would be for us to decide whether or not we’d wanna test that.”

Muir persisted, “So if you decide to run and he’s up there, so be it?”

“So be it,” laughed Pence.

Trump is set to make his highly anticipated announcement on Tuesday night from his residence at Mar-a-Lago.

“Hopefully TODAY will turn out to be one of the most important days in the history of our Country!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

It may not be merely a coincidence that Pence has reemerged on the national scene this week, his new book “So Help Me God” was released Tuesday and he will be featured in a CNN town hall on Wednesday.

According to Amazon’s description of Pence’s new book:

“Mike Pence spent more hours in the Oval Office than any of his predecessors. On the surface, the affable evangelical Christian from a gas-station-owning family in Indiana wouldn’t seem to have much in common with a brash real estate mogul from New York. But the unlikely duo formed a tight bond. Pence was at Donald Trump’s side when he enacted historic tax relief, when he decided to take more assertive stances toward China and North Korea, and when he appointed three Supreme Court justices. But the relationship broke down after the 2020 election. On January 6, 2021, as the president pressured him to overturn the election, a mob erected a gallows on Capitol Hill and its members chanted ‘Hang Mike Pence!’ as they rampaged through the halls of Congress. The vice president refused to leave the Capitol, and once the riot was quelled, he reconvened Congress to complete the work of a peaceful transfer of power.”
