Consultant reveals sleazy plan to get around voters, instill Gavin Newsom as POTUS: ‘Can’t miss!’

The Hill is out with a column from an apparent left-winger who’s proposed that President Joe Biden make California Gov. Gavin Newsom the president.

According to Douglas MacKinnon, a political and communications consultant who worked in the Reagan, H.W. Bush, and Bush administrations, all it’d take is for Biden to pull off some bizarre, potentially unconstitutional shenanigans.

“In one scenario, Biden could ask [Vice President Kamala] Harris to resign and replace her with Newsom, who then becomes the heir apparent for 2024. Or Biden could replace Harris with Newsom and then resign himself, making Newsom the president before 2024 and arming him with the full force of the Oval Office,” MacKinnon writes for The Hill.

The first idea doesn’t really make sense, since Newsom could run for president in 2024 without first being made vice president. As for the second idea, it seems to make sense, though it’s not clear whether such an arguably sleazy plan would even  be constitutional.

Regardless, critics don’t seem to care for either idea:

There’s also the racial matter. While some critics raised concerns about Newsom, a white guy, taking over for Harris, a black woman, other critics meanwhile zeroed in on the fact that the Democrat Party is increasingly anti-white these days.

So much so that the idea of replacing a white president with yet another white guy is already by itself sparking anger:

Incidentally, liberal comedian Bill Maher addressed this very topic on the latest episode of his HBO show, “Real Time,” by noting that going forward, the Democrat Party is likely going to be the “no straight white guys” party.

“The last thing you want is a straight white guy. Sorry Gavin Newsom!” he quipped.

Dovetailing back to MacKinnon’s column, why exactly does he want to replace Biden in the first place? Well, it’s complicated.

His first concern is that former President Donald Trump may not run for reelection for whatever reason. His second is that Biden and Harris are a “drag” on the party.

“I have written that I don’t believe Trump will run but will drag out the anticipation for as long as possible to keep his “brand” in the news and the campaign donations flowing in. If he does declare that he will not be a candidate in 2024, how much energy will leak out of the Democratic vote machine? Potentially quite a bit,” he writes.

“That possibility, coupled with the drag that Biden and Harris are already attaching to the Democrats’ chances to retain the White House in 2024, raises a critically important question of strategy for their party: Do Democrats jettison both Biden and Harris or keep them and more than likely lose to a strong Republican ticket of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and, perhaps, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley?” he continues.

MacKinnon’s conclusion is that Democrats’ best chances going into 2024 is to discard Biden and Harris and replace them with Newsom and some yet-unknown vice president.

“What Tuesday’s voting demonstrated is that our country is still equally divided and deeply polarized, with no political healing on the horizon. That reality speaks to the need for a proven vote-getter with lots of money and a logistical machine behind him. In Politics 101, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) meets — maybe even exceeds — those qualifications,” he writes.

This conclusion has also not been well-received:
