Prince Andrew sex accuser retracts claim Epstein trafficked her to Alan Dershowitz: ‘I made a mistake’

A purported case of mistaken identity has led to Alan Dershowitz and Jeffrey Epstein accuser, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, agreeing to drop pending lawsuits against each other.

Guiffre had sued the retired Harvard law professor and high-profile First-Amendment champion for defamation, i.e., reputational harm.

The controversy arose after Giuffre claimed that Dershowitz (who was part of President Trump’s legal team in the first impeachment trial) was one of the men with whom Epstein allegedly forced her to have sexual relations, which prompted him to call her a liar.

The litigious liberal legal scholar subsequently filed a countersuit against her. Giuffre’s lawyer David Boies, who represented several of Epstein’s victims, also sued Dershowitz for defamation, which similarly resulted in a countersuit. Parenthetically, Boies is perhaps best known for representing Al Gore in the Bush v. Gore 2000 election case.

Pursuant to an “agreed statement” filed in Manhattan federal court that permanently puts an end to the dispute, there was no exchange of money by any of the parties “or anything else.”

In the carefully crafted stipulation submitted to the presiding judge to dismiss the case, Giuffre explained the following:

I have long believed that I was trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein to Alan Dershowitz. I was very young at the time, it was a very stressful and traumatic environment, and Mr. Dershowitz has from the beginning consistently denied these allegations. I now recognize I may have made a mistake in identifying Mr. Dershowitz. This litigation has been very stressful and burdensome or me and my family, and we believe it is time to bring it to an end and move on with our lives.

For his part, Dershowitz, 84, asserted, in part, that “As I have said from the beginning, I never had sex with Ms. Giuffre. I have nevertheless come to believe that at the time she accused me she believed what she said…I also now believe that my allegations that David Boies engaged in an extortion plot and in suborning perjury were mistaken.”

Wishing Giuffre well, Dershowitz told Megyn Kelly that he was gratified about how things turned out, and that the formal statement was “pretty darn good.”

He added that “As far as I’m concerned the matter is now resolved, and we can all go on living our lives, me with a clean record.”

Earlier this year, Giuffre, 39, settled a lawsuit for an undisclosed amount — including a substantial payment to a victims’ rights charity — that she had brought against the U.K.’s Prince Andrew. She had accused the royal of sexually abusing her as a teenager. As standard in many out-of-court settlements, the prince did not admit any wrongdoing.

A court filing that resolved that matter said, in part, “Prince Andrew has never intended to malign Ms. Giuffre’s character, and he accepts that she has suffered both as an established victim of abuse and as a result of unfair public attacks.”

“Dershowitz had represented Epstein, a globetrotting financier who counted prominent politicians and businessmen among his associates, in a 2008 non-prosecution agreement with federal prosecutors in Florida,” Reuters recalled. “As part of that deal, Epstein pleaded guilty to a lesser prostitution offense, served 13 months in a county jail with leave during the day, and registered as a sex offender.”

Epstein’s wing woman, socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, is serving a 20-year sentence in federal prison for child sex trafficking. Her case is currently on appeal.

Epstein committed suicide, according to authorities, in a Manhattan lockup in August 2019, while he was awaiting trial on charges related to the sex trafficking of minors.
