Ohio Dem whips out open beer after touting bigger crowds than Trump: ‘We’re gonna bring it home!’

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio), who is running against Republican J.D. Vance for U.S. Senate in Tuesday’s midterm elections, is confident he shall prevail, so much so that he held up a can of beer in a premature pre-election toast Monday night while on the air with MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell.

Vance has maintained a single-digit lead in the polls heading into Election Day, but Ryan held a rally on Saturday and claimed to have had more people in attendance than a rally held by former President Trump the same weekend as the latter stumped for Vance in the state.

“I had more people at my rally than Donald Trump,” Ryan said Monday night on “The Last Word,” adding “This thing is going in the wrong direction for him and in the right direction for us.”

O’Donnell prompted Ryan to respond to comments his opponent made regarding Social Security.

“When J.D. Vance was a Republican investment banker, venture capitalist, he talked about Social Security being basically, as far as he was concerned, an impossible government program to finance and to continue,” the host said. “Now that he’s a Republican candidate for Senate, he seems to be saying, ‘Oh no, no,’ he wants to save Social Security.”

“This is a huge issue here in Ohio,” Ryan began. “There’s no question about it, and all I will tell people in Ohio is this: they told us they were gonna overturn Roe v. Wade. They told us. We didn’t believe them.”

“Now they’re telling us that they want to get rid of Social Security, they want to vote on it every five years, they want to privatize Medicare. We need to believe them. And that means that we need to fight this crew as hard as we possibly can, and we need to make sure that we protect the retirement of our seniors and the healthcare for seniors. And that’s it.”

“Congressman Tim Ryan, with his closing argument on tonight’s ‘Last Word,’ thank you very much,” O’Donnell said.

“We’re gonna bring it home, Lawrence,” Ryan declared as he held a can of Miller Lite with the label facing the camera as if in a product placement. “We’re gonna bring it home,” he said, smiling.

Although the Senate race for the Ohio race is relatively tight, at least one person in Ryan’s own party says he’s a “fraud” who doesn’t deserve a single vote. As BPR reported, Hamilton County, Ohio Auditor Dusty Rhodes says he will in no way vote for Tim Ryan. Instead, Rhodes said he’ll be voting for Vance.

Rhodes penned an op-ed for the Cincinnati Enquirer on Friday in which he laid out a thorough case against voting for Ryan, part of which read, “I should be a Tim Ryan voter. He says he stands up to our own party’s radicals in D.C. He claims he isn’t beholden to Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi. He’d like us to believe he doesn’t fight the culture wars that are endangering Ohio’s kids. This would all be great, if it were true.”

“But I won’t be fooled, and neither should you. The narrative Ryan has built around himself is nothing more than shameless deception from a career politician desperate to cling to power,” he wrote.
