The new Florida election crimes unit is on the job sniffing out fraud with the all-important midterm elections only days away and has announced the arrest of a woman who faces felony charges for casting ballots in two states in the same election cycle.
On Friday, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement announced that 55-year-old Cheryl Ann Leslie of Loxahatchee, a registered Democrat, was charged with voting in both Florida and Alaska in the 2020 state and federal primary elections.
According to an FDLE press release, “Inspectors with FDLE’s Election Crime Unit today arrested Cheryl Ann Leslie, 55, of Loxahatchee, on two counts of casting more than one ballot in an election. Both are third-degree felonies. The Florida Secretary of State’s Office of Election Crimes and Security assisted with the investigation.”

“Leslie, a physician assistant, voted in both the 2020 federal and state primary elections in Florida and Alaska. Leslie’s Alaska votes were submitted by absentee ballot, and her Florida votes were submitted early and in person in Palm Beach County,” the FDLE stated. “Leslie told investigators that her work as a physician assistant required extensive travel between multiple states. Leslie works with a senior care facility in Loxahatchee.”
“The investigation revealed a pattern of double voting as Leslie also voted in both states in 2014, 2016 and 2018,” the press release reads. “Information on Leslie’s multi-state voting originated from the Secretary of State’s Office of Election Crimes and Security and was forwarded to FDLE’s Election Crime Unit for further investigation.”
She was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail where she’s being held on $1,000 bail.
“The Florida Department of State, Office of Election Crimes and Security is grateful for our partnership with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement,” said Secretary of State and Chief Election Officer Cord Byrd in a statement, according to Fox News. “This arrest is yet another confirmation to every eligible Florida voter that the Department of State and FDLE are working together to ensure the integrity of their vote and Florida’s elections process.”
The Florida Office of Election Crimes and Security is a police unit created to address concerns about election integrity.
“I am excited that with this legislation, our state will be able to enforce election violations, combat voter fraud and make sure violators are held accountable. If potential violators know they will be held accountable, they will be much less likely to engage in improper conduct in the first place,” Governor Ron DeSantis said last year when the legislation for the unit was introduced.

DeSantis would go on to sign S.B. 524 into law after it was resoundingly passed by state lawmakers in April.
“Twenty years ago, nobody thought Florida was a prime example of how to conduct elections, but we have become a national leader by running the most secure elections in the country,” the governor said in a statement. “We need to do more to ensure our elections remain secure. We have ended ballot harvesting, stopped drop boxes and the mass mailing of ballots, and banned Zuckerbucks, and this bill will give us more resources to make sure bad actors are held accountable.”
The overwhelming desire of some Democrats to cheat on behalf of their party will have very serious consequences if they do it in Florida where election integrity is taken very seriously.
