Dem pollster rags on own party, doesn’t acknowledge people’s ‘legitimate concerns’

Harold Hutchison, DCNF

A pollster for former President Bill Clinton said during a Thursday Fox News appearance that Democrats fail to address “legitimate concerns.”

“This is the problem with my party, the Democrats,” Douglas Schoen told Fox News host Martha MacCallum. “We don’t acknowledge people’s legitimate concern about food prices, gas prices and law and order. It’s like Kathy Hochul in New York that asked Lee Zeldin, ‘Why are you so concerned about crime?’”

A September Trafalgar poll noted that 67.9% of respondents felt less safe than they did two years ago, as New York Cityand Philadelphia saw crime rates increase from 2021, a year in which six major cities reported record-high levels of violent crime. Only37% of respondents approved of President Joe Biden’s handling of crime in a Fox News poll, while Biden garnered 39% approval in Economist/YouGov and Harvard/Harris polls and dropped to 33% in a Monmouth poll on the issue.

The Consumer Price Index increased 8.2% year-to-year in September after rising by 8.3% in August, 8.6% in July, 9.1% in June and 8.5% in May.

WATCH:

Schoen’s comments came in the wake of “View” co-host Sunny Hostin claiming that women voting for Republicans was like “roaches voting for Raid” and claimed women who support Republicans were “voting against their own self-interest.”

Schoen also criticized President Biden’s speech at Union Station in Washington, D.C., Wednesday evening, during which Biden claimed “American democracy is under attack.” Biden cast doubt on the legitimacy of the 2022 midterms should Congress fail to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

“What went through my mind is, ‘Why isn’t he talking about the economy? Why isn’t he talking about law and order? Why isn’t he talking about people’s real world concerns?’” Schoen said. “To relitigate the 2020 election is a mistake. People don’t want to focus on that.”

“I’m sorry, who?” The White House told the DCNF when asked for comment on Shoen’s remarks.
