Don’t you just hate it when you accidentally steal another comedian’s joke to use on your show, “inadvertently” telling it exactly the same way as the original comedian?
That’s exactly what comedian and host of “The Late Late Show” James Corden apologized for on Tuesday after Ricky Gervais tweeted a video showing some pretty stark similarities.
Gervais later deleted the tweet because he reportedly “felt sorry” for the host, and would later re-tweet Cordon’s apology.
Luckily, the internet is forever:

Started to feel sorry for him 😂

Once it was pointed out that the joke was effectively a carbon copy of Gervais’ 2018 material, Cordon apologized profusely. He even added in some flattery for Gervais.
Inadvertently told a brilliant Ricky Gervais joke on the show last night, obviously not knowing it came from him. It’s brilliant, because it’s a Ricky Gervais joke. You can watch all Ricky’s excellent specials on Netflix. J x

While some people had a hard time believing it was an “accident” to quote someone’s material word-for-word, Gervais believes that one of Cordon’s writers may have made the decision to use the joke.
No. I reckon one of the writers ‘came up with it’ for him. I doubt he would knowingly just copy such a famous stand up routine word for word like that.

All in all, it looks like there are no hard feelings between the two.
Can’t say the same for Twitter, though:
Look, if you don’t like James Corden’s show, don’t watch it. It’s like going into a town square and seeing a poster that says ‘Guitar Lessons’ and you go “but I don’t want guitar lessons!”

There should be a big billboard in the UK that says James Corden, so everyone can shout “but I don’t want James Corden” at it

You’re telling me, the guy that fakes driving a car that is on a flatbed to sing with celebrities stole jokes?!?! NOOOOOOOO
I’m shocked!!! #JamesCorden #RickyGervais

#JamesCorden #RickyGervais Corden’s writers know his show’s on its last lap. If he fires them, it’ll probably make little difference to them. Might they have set him up to reveal himself for what he is? The timing seems too perfect for coincidence.

If he finds @rickygervais so brilliant then surely he would have seen his shows and immediately recognized the joke, no? https://t.co/7PHcowbak2

Could happen to anyone. I’m constantly inadvertently telling Ricky Gervais jokes. https://t.co/fKuN8RlHLz
