Katie Hobbs wears BIG egg on her face after linking Kari Lake to burglary… still waiting on apology

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs is evidently refusing to apologize to her opponent, Republican Kari Lake, after blaming her for a break-in at her headquarters following the arrest of a suspect who reportedly had no connection to her.

The man was identified by police as 36-year-old Daniel Mota Dos Reis. He had already been in jail for a separate commercial burglary in the Phoenix area.

Hobbs accused Kari Lake and her allies of coordinating a “watergate-style break-in.”

“AFTER accusing my team of coordinating a Watergate style break-in of her office, Katie Hobbs has now flip-flopped and DOES NOT want to talk about the crime. This comes AFTER arrest was made and NO political motivation confirmed,” Lake tweeted following the arrest.

Axios reporter Jeremy Duda tweeted, “Phoenix PD statement on the arrest of 36yo Daniel Mota Dos Reis on one count of 3rd degree burglary for allegedly breaking into @katiehobbs’ campaign office. Police recognized him from security camera images because he’d already been arrested on unrelated burglary charges.”

“Phoenix police have identified the man arrested in connection with the break-in of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs’ campaign headquarters in Phoenix. That man, Daniel Mota Dos Reis, 36, was already in jail. He was first arrested Wednesday morning for a separate commercial burglary, according to a police statement,” AZ Central reported.

“The break-in at Hobbs’ office was reported to police on Tuesday afternoon, and police said it occurred sometime the night before. An officer saw images of Mota Dos Reis on the news on Wednesday night and recognized him from the prior incident, the police statement said. The officer reached out to the jail and the department rearrested him. He was booked on suspicion of third-degree burglary, the police statement said,” according to the media outlet.

KGUN9 reported that Dos Reis took an Apple computer mouse, an Apple keyboard, and a black Nikon camera, among other things from the office. He had a backpack with him that contained burglary tools when he was arrested on Wednesday.

Before the arrest, Hobbs’ team had released a statement accusing Kari Lake’s team of inciting violence against them and basically being behind the burglary.

“Earlier this week, a break-in occurred at our campaign headquarters. We continue to cooperate with law enforcement as they investigate, and we are thankful to the men and women of the Phoenix Police Department for their work to keep us safe,” Hobbs’ statement read. “Secretary Hobbs and her staff have faced hundreds of death threats and threats of violence over the course of this campaign. Throughout this race, we have been clear that the safety of our staff and of the Secretary is our number one priority.”

“Let’s be clear: for nearly two years Kari Lake and her allies have been spreading dangerous misinformation and inciting threats against anyone they see fit. The threats against Arizonans attempting to exercise their constitutional rights and their attacks on elected officials are the direct result of a concerted campaign of lies and intimidation,” it continued. “It won’t work. Katie is running for governor to ensure the safety and security of every Arizona family. She will win this race.”

The Arizona Democratic Party then released a statement of its own on Twitter. “Unfortunately, Katie and so many other elected officials are victims of threats and intimidation tactics like this. Make no mistake — this is a direct result of Kari Lake and fringe Republicans spreading lies and hate and inciting violence — and it is despicable.”

Lake responded to the brazenly attempted smear when a reporter asking her about it, “And are you guys buying that? Are you really buying that? Because this sounds like a Jussie Smollett part two.”

“I can’t believe that she would blame my amazing people or blame me for something like that,” said Lake. “I don’t even know where her campaign office is. I’m assuming it’s in a basement somewhere, because that’s where she’s been campaigning,” she quipped.

There has also been an incident at Lake’s campaign headquarters as well. She slammed the media for not covering it.

“We are very thankful that the Phoenix Police Department acted so quickly to arrest a suspect,” Nicole DeMont, Hobbs’ campaign manager, said in a statement. “We will continue to cooperate with law enforcement as this investigation unfolds.”

She arrogantly took a final swipe at Lake, “Let me be clear, Kari Lake’s preposterous allegation that this break-in was staged is unfounded and her refusal to condemn the threats that have become common in our politics continues to stoke chaos.”

No apology was forthcoming to Lake and there is unlikely to be one. The whole accusation by Hobbs reeked of desperation as Lake is now predicted to beat her in Arizona.

“Late in the game, 13 days out, desperate campaign, because they’re falling like a rock in the polls again,” Lake commented, according to FOX10 Phoenix.
