Flying is sort of like paying taxes: You don’t want to do it, you don’t have fun while you’re doing it, but it’s a necessary evil.
But according to President Joe Biden, it’s also racist.
During remarks on rising costs and the state of the economy, Biden appeared to veer slightly off track to attack airlines for what he calls “junk fees.” And because he’s a Democrat, he also made sure to throw in how the lack of proper legroom disproportionately affects people of color.
Watch:
BIDEN: “Some airlines, if you want 6 more inches between you and the seat in front, you pay more money but you don’t know it […] These are junk fees, they’re unfair and they hit marginalized Americans the hardest, especially low income folks and people of color.” #racist pic.twitter.com/4mgUdzO2zX

“Some airlines, if you want six more inches between you and the seat in front, you pay more money. But you don’t know it until you purchase your ticket. Look, folks, these are junk fees. They’re unfair, and they hit marginalized Americans the hardest, especially low-income folks and people of color,” Biden claimed. “They benefit big corporations, not consumers, not working families.”
Social media had a field day with this one:
You mean the same people u claimed didnt have access to proper voter id now magically have said ID to get on a plane?

Now airline seats are racist. Who knew?

He just called people of color fat lol

Been flying for 45 years, never seen a seat moved 6 inches for an extra fee. What airlines offer this exactly? Great service upgrade offering if true. How much is the fee. Does the person losing 6 inches of room get a price downgrade? Tell me more.

My husband is 6’7” and my son is 6’8”. Not getting this at all.

You cannot get extra legroom without going through a process during which you approve the extra fee. No one gets extra charged leg room fees without their explicit approval.

I’m literally on an airplane right now. Sitting in seats 1A and 1B are two people who need extra room for size reasons. Good on them for booking first class.
— Tex (@ALBtris) October 26, 2022
This is insulting. You say a blended person like me doesn’t know how to book seats with standard legroom, additional legroom, etc or know this impacts me financially because I don’t know what I’m buying? This is untrue, no carrier does this. @potus have you been online ever?

Constantly pitting groups of people against one another is un-American. Period.

Can anything NOT be based on color in this administration’s view. Unreal!
