Tearful Megyn Kelly reveals sister passed away from sudden heart attack: ‘Spare a prayer for my mom’

Megyn Kelly sadly told her audience on Monday that her older sister, Suzanne Crossley, suddenly died of a heart attack on Friday after being in poor health for the past couple of years and asked that people pray for her mom.

Kelly was tearful and did her best to hold it together on her podcast while relaying the news.

“Something really sad happened in my family over the weekend,” Kelly revealed, her voice cracking at the onset of her SiriusXM podcast.

“My sister died,” she said. “She was 58. Her name was Suzanne Crossley and she died Friday suddenly of a heart attack.”

Kelly is 51. She said her sister’s health condition has been deteriorating, “It’s just been sort of like one problem after another.”

“So it was sudden and unexpected,” she noted.

Kelly got the news on Friday and rushed home to be with her mother, Linda Kelly, and her siblings.

“It was really hard,” she remarked. “It was extremely emotional.”

“As all moms and dads out there know, this is not the order in which this is supposed to happen,” Kelly commented, trying to fend off the grief.

She announced that she would be going to spend more time with her family after her podcast on Monday, to help them deal with the overwhelming sadness gripping all of them.

Crossley’s funeral will take place Tuesday.

Kelly debated on whether to work or not and do her show on Monday. But when grief threatens to swallow you whole, sometimes work is a refuge… a way to stay sane and keep it together even if it is for just a little while.

“But for me, it’s better to be here,” she told her audience. “Maybe you can relate, but it’s more cathartic to work.”

She explained that doing her podcast “gave me a couple of hours where I can take my mind off of it.”

Kelly plans to speak further about her sister “later this week when I’ve had a chance to process it more.”

She pointed out that the untimely death of her sister was “a reminder to hug the people you love” and that life is “short and tenuous.”

“We can’t all be perfect in [staying close to the people you love],” Kelly said. “But we can make a little effort, day by day, to shoot a text or return a call. I’m never very good at that.”

“So it’s a big reminder to me at how fleeting things can be and how we get upset over s**t that doesn’t matter,” she stated.

“Spare a prayer for my mom and my sister’s kids and my sister’s one grandchild,” she asked her audience. “I would appreciate it. They’re hurting today.”

Crossley was a native of Nyack, NY. She grew up in Syracuse and Albany, according to her obituary. She leaves behind three children: Christopher, Brian, and Emily Crossley. Kelly’s sister also has a grandson named Brom Crossley.

“Family was the center of Suzanne’s life and she was adored for her caring, witty, and wise interactions with everyone she loved,” the obit printed in the Times-Union of Albany read.

“She was extremely creative, enjoyed arts and crafts and any game with family. She played a fierce gin rummy and was eagle-eyed for those trying to palm the double five in Dominos,” the obit lightly conveyed.

Crossley is survived by her mother, sister Megyn Kelly, her brother Peter Kelly, and stepbrother Paul Kirwan. Crossley’s father, Edward, passed away previously.
