‘RINO’ GOP mayor leaves town during Trump rally to stump for Democrat challenger in Arizona

Former President Donald Trump held a rally in Mesa, Arizona on Sunday, but the Republican mayor of that city wasn’t there.

He was not out of town – this was no ordinary snub. He was in Paradise Valley, which is about 10 miles northwest of Mesa, just on the other side of Scottsdale. And he was campaigning.

A high-profile GOP event featuring the party’s titular head could not find a place on the calendar of GOP Mayor John Giles. He was at an event that he found more pressing.

“There is a rally in Mesa, Arizona, today, featuring some well-known out-of-town guests. I am not there. I am here. … I am here campaigning for Katie Hobbs,” intoned Mayor Giles with pretend virtue.

Katie Hobbs is the Democrat candidate for the governor of Arizona.

While Trump rallied in Mesa for the GOP candidate in the race, Kari Lake, whose platform is solidly in the Republican mainstream, the mayor of Arizona’s third-largest city was campaigning against her across town. With friends like that, who needs enemies? Giles must be deliberately trying to suppress GOP voter turnout.

Outrageously, the Katie Hobbs event was held at Barry Goldwater Memorial Park in Paradise Valley. The implication of that deliberate choice of venue is that staunch conservatives should support Hobbs over Lake. Talk about an absurd contention!

Barry Goldwater was a five-term senator from Arizona, who was the Republican presidential candidate in 1964. He is still a legend and an icon among conservatives in AZ. Almost 90 when he died in 1998, Goldwater was known as one of the most unyielding conservative politicians of the 20th century.

Katie Hobbs, on the other hand, is running on a platform that would have been unimaginable in Goldwater’s day.

One former Republican official, Karie Dozer, said Goldwater would be “shaking his head in disgust” at how “crazy” Republican politics have become.

Giles joined fellow Republicans who signaled their virtue at the altar of Anti-Trumpism, saying that Lake is “dangerous for Arizona.”

“I’m very concerned about the future of our state,” he warned before promoting a rabid liberal. This election features “a choice between sanity and chaos,” he said, adding that a vote for Lake is a vote to put “a conspiracy theorist” in charge of the state.

The Arizona GOP has already censured Giles for endorsing Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) for reelection over his Trump-backed opponent Blake Masters.

The number one concern of Giles and his ilk is the evil contention by Trump that the outcome of the 2020 election was tainted. He hammered Lake for being “singularly focused on an election that happened two years ago.”

While it is a wild stretch to call 2020 election fraud the singular focus of the GOP candidate, she has not shrunk from the issue.

“Those of us who support Secretary Hobbs care very deeply about the future of Arizona, and that’s why we are putting our state above our party,” said Giles, putting politics ahead of principle.

Not a word from these people when Hillary Clinton or Stacey Abrams claims that their elections were stolen. Democrats never lose – they just get snookered. Let a Republican make that claim and all hell breaks loose.
