In the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, which devastated parts of Florida, the media was silent as First Lady Jill Biden wore “kitten” heels during her visit to the state in marked contrast to how they treated former First Lady Melania Trump.

When Melania Trump wore heels as her fashion choice in 2017 while visiting victims of a hurricane, the media savaged her for it. Those same media outlets are noticeably silent now that Jill Biden made a similar choice while in Florida, according to Fox News.
The only differences between the two women’s choices were that Jill Biden chose kitten heels as opposed to the stilettos chosen by Melania. The other glaring difference was that the former first lady’s choice of footwear was fashionable while Biden’s was simply gauche.
The media was all over the Bidens as they departed for Florida to meet up with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) concerning the ongoing recovery efforts following Hurricane Ian which morphed into a Category 4 monster storm. But there was no media fixation on Jill Biden’s footwear as they did Melania’s.
Endless photos and videos of Jill Biden were put out by the media but none of them said a peep about her heels in Florida or her ghastly shoes in Puerto Rico. No one dared recall the fishnet stockings fiasco either.

When Melania Trump visited Texas in 2017 following Hurricane Harvey, her heels were the talk of the media, and not in a good way. She was slammed for it as they mocked and ridiculed her to no end.
The New York Times, for instance, ran with the headline, “Melania Trump, Off to Texas, Finds Herself on Thin Heels.” Vogue attacked the then-first lady as well, writing, “Melania Trump’s Hurricane Stilettos, and the White House’s Continual Failure to Understand Optics.” The Washington Post bashed her, claiming she “offered up a fashion moment instead of an expression of empathy.”
There were many more that piled on as well. From Buzzfeed, “Melania Trump Wore Stilettos On The Way To Texas And People Lost Their Minds.” Harper’s Bazaar noted, “Melania Trump Gets Backlash for Wearing Heels to Help Hurricane Victims.” Hollywood Reporter chimed in with, “Melania Trump Wears Her Stilettos to Tour Houston Flood Zone, No Joke.” Worst of all was Vanity Fair, which headlined, “Who Wears Stilettos to a Hurricane? Melania Trump.”
The media didn’t even wait for Melania to land on Texan soil where she took off her high heels and donned a pair of sneakers. Jill Biden wore her heels throughout her trip, slogging through the sand of Florida with no media comment.
The White House did not mention Jill Biden’s footwear either. But Breitbart White House correspondent Charlie Spiering snarked that “reliable sources” informed him her heels were different from the ones worn by Melania Trump.
“I’m told by reliable sources that Jill Biden is wearing kitten heels as she leaves for the trip to visit hurricane damage in Florida. Not stilettos, as Melania Trump wore in 2017 that triggered the haters when she went to Texas to view damage from Hurricane Harvey,” Spiering tweeted.

CNN White House correspondent Kate Bennett justified the difference in reporting by memory-holing the abhorrent treatment of Melania Trump, “My point being: fashion is almost always political, especially when it comes to first ladies. There is no paradigm, only what predetermined political leanings may or may not determine. A shoe is a shoe is a shoe. And a woman can choose any she wishes.”

Melania Trump is a former fashion model. That fact alone highlights the hypocrisy in the reporting of the attire of the two women.
For instance, Melania was dragged by the media for her “all-white” pantsuit during a State of the Union address in 2018 according to Fox News. Those same outlets literally drooled over Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton when she wore a similar outfit… just not nearly as well.
And then there is Vice President Kamala Harris who is infamous for UPS-inspired attire. The media heaped praise on her for wearing Timberland boots during an appearance in 2020. When Melania Trump wore boots, they eviscerated her for it calling the very same foot attire “work boots.”

“Melania Trump gets mocked for wearing Timberland boots while visiting troops,” Yahoo! Life headlined in 2018.
“Work boots and white jeans? Melania Trump’s outfits still missing the mark for some,” a USA Today headline read in 2017. The outlet removed any description of Timberlands as “work boots” when covering Harris’ shoe choice three years later.
So where is the media on Jill Biden’s heels? It did not go unnoticed by conservatives:
Are those heels she’s wearing?

Remember when they went after Melania for her shoes in a disaster area? I’m sure the media will do the same here.

Looking forward to all the stories critical of the good Dr’s choice of footwear going into a hurricane disaster zone.
