Owner showcases how $86K GMC Hummer EV takes 4 DAYS to fully charge from home outlet

A YouTuber is claiming that the “quickest charging [electric] vehicle on the market right now” apparently takes quite a while to charge the battery from home.

The brief video suggests it could take up to four days to fully charge the new 2023 GMC Hummer, which could be an issue for consistent day-to-day activity let alone in an emergency in a worst-case scenario.

The narrator on the TFLEV automotive-focused channel says that “Just plugged it in at my house, 120 volt, using the Hummer cable. Level One charging…Right now it’s about 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and it says it will be full by Saturday at 10:55, which is four-plus days of charging. Wow.”

A Level Two charger could get the job done in just 24 hours, however, according to the show-and-tell video.

“I have a Juice Box, Level Two charger, 240 volts at my garage,” the man explained. “Plug in Level Two charger; now it says it will be done tomorrow by 6:30, so about 24 hours of charging from four percent to 100 percent. It’s a 212 kilowatt-hour battery. Still takes a while.”

Watch the video embedded below and draw your own conclusions:

The basic, entry level model of the 2023 EV2 Hummer has a retail price of about $87,000.

A Level One charger, that plugs into a standard wall outlet, is included with each electric vehicle.

A Level Two charger will set the consumer back by $500, “not including the cost to install it.,” Compare.com asserted.

“If you plan to use an electric vehicle for all your driving needs, investment in a Level 2 charger is definitely worth it. While the Level 1 charging cables that come with EVs upon purchase are useful in a pinch, it’s not practical to rely on their slow charge times to power up your EV on a daily basis,” Compare.com added.

Separately, despite all the hoopla about electric cars (including the California ban on the sale of gas-powered vehicles by 2035), self-styled environmentalists and others in that contingent seem unaware that most of the electricity to power those vehicles is currently generated by fossil fuels, such as coal, rather than renewables.

And how much conventionally generated electricity is necessary to build electric cars on the factory assembly line?

Separately, the proprietor of the “Hoovies Garage” YouTube channel towed an antique car with his Ford EV pickup and described the experience, which may not be reflective of typical use, as “a complete and total disaster.”

“If a truck towing 3,500 pounds can’t even go 100 miles…that is ridiculously stupid,” Tyler Hoover claimed, in part, in a 12-minute video.

“This truck can’t do normal truck things. You would be stopping every hour to recharge, which would take about 45 minutes a pop, and that is absolutely not practical. So the F-150 Lightning is more like a truck that most people use their trucks for, just to get around A to B, and not really using it to do truck things. They just want something big and comfortable, and it does great at that, but as far as doing truck things, well so far, just with towing, not good,”
