Fetterman offers odd defense in response to Tucker Carlson’s ‘stupid little fake tattoos’ dig

Fox News host Tucker Carlson excels at triggering progressives and, evidently, he struck a nerve with Pennsylvania Senate hopeful Lt. Gov. John Fetterman.

However, much like the stroke-suffering politician himself, the Democrat’s campaign appeared a step behind as his fiery comeback over a crack about “fake tattoos” arrived nearly three weeks after the fact.

As was witnessed by then-candidate Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential basement tour, corporate media has seemingly run cover for Fetterman whose campaign only posted snippets from one of his public appearances over the weekend. Instead of confronting concerns over the candidate’s cognitive abilities or his detrimental policies, NBC News ran an op-ed attributed to the lieutenant governor going after one of the left’s favorite boogeymen, Carlson.

Determined to frame Fetterman as a compassionate and successful leader juxtaposed against an “unhinged” conservative movement, Sunday’s piece focused on “tattoos that Carlson seems to be so interested in.”

The tattoos were part of a passing remark from the Fox News host in a lengthy monologue on Sept. 7 ripping into the failings of Fetterman as mayor of Braddock, as Carlson attributed them to part of a persona to give the impression of being a man of the people: “All your stupid little fake tattoos, it’s a costume, of course. Duh. It’s not real.”

“Gun violence and violent crime might be a joke to someone like Carlson, but they are very real to people in towns like Braddock,” Fetterman wrote after explaining, “I have nine dates tattooed on my right forearm. Each one is a day on which someone died violently in Braddock, Pennsylvania, while I was mayor.”

“My decision to mark these deaths with tattoos was inspired in part by their permanence–the fact that these people, their stories and my town will be with me forever,” he continued after recounting a few of the tragedies that had happened during his tenure.

Should Carlson respond to the delayed deflection from Fetterman against the throwaway line, while garnering more attention for the campaign that recently showed the Democrat in a much tighter race with Republican candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz, it would likely only include a greater fact-based smackdown of the record on crime.

As the host had already pointed out in the monologue with the tattoo line, “in Pennsylvania, typically if you commit murder, you get life in prison, as you should. You’re not allowed to kill people, but Fetterman would change that. He’d like you out of jail as quickly as possible…No actual populist or actual working-class person talks like this, worries about punishing murderers too much.”

“Maybe if you achieve the first 115 things on your to-do list, you’d worry about, ‘Are the murderers serving too much time in prison?’ That’s after you got people jobs,” Carlson slammed, “after you convinced their children to stay in the state where they were born, after you fixed the fact that thousands are dying of drug ODs. Only rich kids think like that, and by the way, only rich kids wear hoodies to political events.”

“‘I’m a working man and wearing a hoodie.’ No working man actually wears a hoodie to a political event,” he argued. “All your stupid little fake tattoos. It’s a costume, of course. Duh. It’s not real, but John Fetterman, inspired by his time at Harvard and the Aspen Institute, would like to free a third of the prison population in Pennsylvania, and that’s just for starters.”

“You’re an idiot,” Carlson asserted of Fetterman. “You’ve never had a job and you wrecked the town that you ran. You didn’t even show up at council meetings. What? ‘Climate change, let the murderers out. We’ll have a much safer society when we let the incorrigibly violent roam among us.’ Right.”
