Electric vehicle advocates don’t want consumers knowing these 10 important facts

Advocates for electric vehicles are not telling the whole story, taking care to avoid any focus on the pitfalls associated with the industry while pushing all in to eliminate gas-powered vehicles.

“There are a host of reasons why the Left is absolutely determined to force Americans out of their privately owned, gasoline-powered cars and trucks and into unreliable public transportation and costly Electric Vehicles,” Mark Tapscott wrote in an article titled, “10 Facts Electric Vehicle Advocates Don’t Want You to Know.

“There is so much that is so incredibly wrong-headed, if not either outright dishonest or stupid, with the drive to force Americans into EVs,” Tapscott notes after reviewing the fact that inexpensive, efficient gasoline cars brought prosperity and unprecedented freedom to Americans rich and poor. “The future will instead be centrally controlled by rich elitists and their corrupt politicians, power-hungry bureaucrats, and ideologically driven ‘experts.”

Tapscott noted that on August 24, California announced it would phase in a ban on the sale of gasoline cars, with 35% of sales to be electric vehicles by 2026 and 100% by 2035 — ironically, on August 31, California told residents not to charge their EVs when they get home from their commute due to electricity shortages.

He pointed out that “millions of good jobs, financial stability, and personal income growth” have come from the booming industries brought on by privately owned, gas-powered automobiles, before sharing a list of “10 Things You Should Know About California’s Car Ban” that was compiled by Power the Future.

This list appropriately starts by noting that EVs only change the point at which fossil fuels are burned; they don’t prevent their combustion. Coal, oil, and natural gas are used to provide about 60% of the nation’s electricity. Nuclear power, another huge “no-no” the left works to destroy, accounts for 20%.

Then there is that inconvenient link between government mandates and government incompetence. Power the Future points out a recent study showing nearly one-third of electric charging stations in San Francisco are non-functional. In addition to the design and mechanical failures noted in the study, it has been reported in several cities that sidewalk homeless encampments that spill over to the roadsides block access.

The increased electricity generation requirement of 40% will add further strain to the creaking system, and “utility companies will need to add $5,800 in upgrades for every new EV for the next eight years in order to compensate for the demand for power. All customers will shoulder this cost,” notes the list.

In fact, the increased electricity consumption of the average EV is as if the owner of the vehicle had added one or two more air conditioners to their home. Air conditioners in most parts of the country only run for portions of several months per year. EVs, however, would typically be run year-round.

Meanwhile, Power the Future notes, “Today, 20 million American families, or one in six, have fallen behind on their electric bills, the highest amount ever.”

Most charging of EVs is done at the owner’s home, and usually overnight, when solar power is unavailable, according to a study referenced in the list. Wind, driven by the sun, declines at night as well. Those living in multi-family dwellings such as apartments are left at a real disadvantage in charging their vehicles at home.

The average cost of an EV is $66,000, which is $18,000 more than a gasoline-powered car. Meanwhile, the average income for African American families is just $45,870, while that of Hispanic families is $55,321, according to Power the Future.

But perhaps the most egregious fact the left doesn’t want you to know: “The batteries of EVs rely on cobalt. An estimated 70% of the global supply of cobalt emanates from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a country with deplorable working conditions, especially for children.”
