Teen climate activist leaves interviewer howling in laughter over trip to Fiji: ‘It’s pretty ironic’

Hypocrisy from climate alarmists isn’t limited to elitists like Leonardo DiCaprio and former Secretary of State John Kerry. No, even novice activists vying to be the next Greta Thunberg are readily cornered and in the case of 16-year-old New Zealander Izzy Cook, “it is pretty ironic.”

With messages like “burn capitalism not coal” indoctrinated youth around the world skipped school and marched Sept. 23 as part of the Fridays for Future movement demanding action in line with globalist agendas. As an organizer of Friday’s School Strike 4 Climate in her country, Cook failed against her government for “not doing enough.”

“This year for our strike we’re focusing specifically on agriculture,” she was reported as saying. “Two of our demands are our main focus: ban synthetic nitrogen fertilizers and halving the herd of cows in NZ…the government is just not doing enough.”

However, the climate activist’s devotion to her cause was readily challenged in under less than 30 seconds when radio host Heather du Plessis-Allan of “Wellington Mornings” called out Cook for her own carbon footprint.

“So we would have to apply to have, like approved events to be able to fly for,” du Plessis-Allan wondered after her guest had suggested restrictions on unnecessary air travel.

“Well, that’s one thing that you could look at doing,” Cook answered, prompting the next question, “Am I allowed to go to Fiji? Is that necessary?”

Whether from youthful naiveté or a zealous commitment to her cause, the teen seemed unaware that she was being led into “gotcha” moment as she replied, “In the current climate crisis, I don’t think that that’s necessary travel.”

“When was the last time you were on a plane?” the host asked, poised to land her point.

“Um, I’m not sure. Maybe, a few months ago, to be honest,” Cook hesitantly offered before the question of where she went left her with a pause before the big reveal, “Fiji.”

“Izzy!” du Plessis-Allan laughed at the hypocrite. “Izzy! Don’t you care about the climate, Izzy?”

The activist defended herself saying, “Of course I care about the climate.”

“Not enough,” the host slammed, as she continued laughing. “You went to Fiji. Izzy! Come on mate. Are you serious? Are you serious, Izzy?”

“It’s pretty ironic. It is pretty ironic, but to be honest, it’s not really a trip that I wanted to go on, but I can’t really get out of it,” Cook lamented as evidently her parents had forced her into taking a vacation to the destination that many only ever dream of visiting.

The radio host and those who lauded the handling of the interview were treated as bullies by the social media mob highlighting precisely why activists use children as pawns of their agendas in the first place.

Among those coming to the defense of Cook was her own mother who penned an op-ed for The Spinoff where she reported listening “in horror as [her] 16 year old daughter had a phone conversation with someone who appeared to be bullying her, laughing at her, and talking over her.”

“As soon as she got off the call I demanded to know who the hell was speaking to my child in this way,” Rose Cook wrote.

Utilizing the favored hyperbolic talking points of climate alarmists, the elder Cook arrived at her main point which was to say, “Our young people are genuinely terrified about the world they are inheriting. That is what matters.”

Of course, the mother’s acknowledgment of that belief begs the question why would she force her daughter so “genuinely terrified” of climate catastrophe to increase her carbon footprint considering, as she put it, “The irony here is that Izzy didn’t even want to come. She wanted to stay home and study and hang out with her friends. She’s a teenager! But, selfishly, I insisted, because I wanted to spend time with her.”

Fiji’s relative proximity to New Zealand may not make it as exciting a destination to the local population, but the reported attitude that Cook had to be forced “selfishly” to take the trip with her mother only further emphasizes the manner in which alarmist have corrupted the thinking of the next generation into believing every decision they make must be done with environmental impact as the leading consideration.

Cook did admit after being asked if she had a terrible time with a great deal more laughter from the host, “Not really.”
