Trump unloads on media outlets refusing to report on killing of teen for being Republican

Former President Donald Trump ripped the media for failing to report on the killing of Cayler Ellingson, who was run down by a driver in North Dakota.

The alleged killer, Shannon Brandt, reportedly thought Ellingson was part of a “Republican extremist group.”

“Just recently, a young 18-year-old man from North Dakota … was targeted and killed, run down in cold blood with an SUV by a radical left maniac,” said Trump Friday at a rally in North Carolina in support of the GOP Senate candidate, Ted Budd.

“This guy ran him down and not one mainstream media network has even mentioned this horrible crime,” he continued. “Think of it now. Think of it the other way. Think of it the other way. Supposing a mad person ran down somebody on the other side, it would be the biggest story you’ve ever seen. It’s a disgrace.”

An affidavit has been filed regarding the alleged killer, Shannon Brandt, 41. According to the affidavit, Brandt admitted to using his SUV to hit Ellingson. Brandt claimed, apparently without evidence, that Ellingson was “threatening” him.

Judging from the facts that have been collected from multiple sources, this is nothing less than a political killing. It is abundantly obvious, as Trump pointed out, that if it had been a “MAGA Republican” behind the wheel mowing down a black man or a drag queen, it would be reported everywhere.

But this has been a non-story in the eyes of the mainstream media. Because in their minds, all hate crimes are committed by MAGA Republicans. Isn’t that especially clear now?

And yet, there is information that Ellingson wasn’t even part of the group that the killer thought he was.

On Thursday, North Dakota Highway Patrol Captain Bryan Niewind told Fox News Digital, “There is no evidence to support the claim Brandt made about Ellingson.”

Assuming Shannon Brandt is prosecuted and convicted for the murder, can you imagine him in a prison cell chewing on the fact that Ellingson wasn’t even a right-wing extremist after all?

The mainstream press has given scant attention to Ellingson’s death, even though increasing political violence is so prevalent in the news.

The Associated Press ran this story on Wednesday about the incident. The next day, The Washington Post ran a piece about North Dakota’s attorney general condemning the death. CNN had a print story on Thursday about it, too.

Other than that, it has been lights out. Has there been any coverage on TV? Did ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, or MSNBC even refer to the story? Not to our knowledge.

“You people should be ashamed of yourselves. You should be ashamed of yourself,” said Trump at the rally. “And our hearts go out to the parents and the friends. This young boy, this was a young man. Wonderful, with a great future. And I’m just telling you, just so handsome and so beautiful and so great. And he got run down by a radical left nut job here.”

On the night of the killing, Ellingson reportedly called his mother shortly beforehand to find out if the family knew Brandt. She said that he called again moments after that to say he was being chased. Chilling. After he was run over, Cayler was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
The only good news is that the killer is not free without bail. Nevertheless, Brandt was released from custody on a $50,000 bond, according to Stutsman County jail records. His plea is due in court October 11, but whether he has retained legal counsel is unknown at this time.

Ellingson’s North Dakota high school held a moment of silence at last night’s homecoming football game in memory of their 2022 graduate.
