John Kerry shamelessly admits he doesn’t think Inflation Reduction Act has ‘much’ to do with inflation

US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry committed the political sin of candor at the International Energy Agency’s Global Clean Energy Action Forum, admitting that President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act doesn’t have “much” to do with inflation.

According to Kerry that is okay because it spends billions on climate change.

The bill was hammered out by Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer who conspired with Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin to resurrect the deal after Biden’s Build Back Better plan tanked.

However, the title of the act is a misnomer. Even Kerry called the bill “a completely misnamed piece of legislation.” Much of it has to do with carbon emissions reductions and new funds to promote electric vehicles rather than reducing inflation. In fact, many contend it will do exactly the opposite.

Kerry is lauding the provisions of the new act. He’s ecstatic over the law which includes $375 billion in programs intended to tackle climate change.

“And I’m not sure how much it has to do with inflation, but that’s OK,” he quipped at the forum, according to Fox News.

The former Massachusetts senator and former secretary of state also made a cringy, albeit apropos, joke regarding the name of the act.

“We’re running around saying, ‘I support the IRA. That’s tricky in politics, but here we are,” he kidded, ostensibly referring to the Irish Republican Army.

Later in his speech at the forum, Kerry called the bill an “amazing piece of legislation” in connection to what it does for green energy and combating climate change.

“The most important parts of the IRA are very simple. Production and investment tax credits. That, I think, is going to do more than almost anything else in the bill. We don’t have to have government making choices about winners and losers. The marketplace is going to choose. You, inventors and investors, are going to help move that along, and we’re going to get there,” he proclaimed.

Kerry claimed that for years he has believed that the private sector is the key to combatting climate change because “no government is going to solve this problem,” since governments do not have the money to do it.

“The private sector is the entity that has the trillions of dollars,” he noted.

Kerry also said the act will help the US meet Biden’s goal of a 50 percent reduction in climate-warming greenhouse gases by 2030. He stated that the law is spurring businesses to invest in clean energy.

“We will hit our 50 to 52% reduction, if not more, and I believe it will be more. Why? Because of the rate and pace at which technology is already moving,” he declared, according to State Impact Pennsylvania.

A final Congressional Budget Act score for the bill asserted it would reduce the deficit by $238 billion and claimed that it would have a “negligible” effect on prices in 2023.

The green pork-laden law includes billions to promote wind, solar, and other renewable energy. It has tax incentives for battery production and electric vehicles and allows Medicare to negotiate with drug companies for lower prices which many believe will not materialize. It also implements a 1 percent surcharge on corporate stock buybacks as a revenue generator.
