‘I know what schadenfreude means’: Fmr. NY official slams hypocrisy of Dem ‘meltdown’ over immigrant transports

A former New York gubernatorial candidate and Westchester County executive who exposed President Joe Biden’s nighttime flights of illegal immigrants into New York state, says the left’s response to the recent transportation of migrants from Texas and Florida is hypocrisy at the highest level.

“I don’t know how to spell the word, but I know what schadenfreude means,” Rob Astorino told Fox News’s Brian Kilmeade.

“And it’s a lot of fun watching these progressives have a complete and utter meltdown because they are wholly inadequate to handle any of the problems that they are actually causing,” he added on “Brian Kilmeade Radio.

Explaining that today’s record-breaking number of illegal border crossings, topping 2 million thus far in 2022, is because of the Biden administration’s lax regulation of the southern border and welcoming incentives, Astorino said liberal policies are to blame for the crisis as a whole.

“You go back to last August when I broke this about these flights coming in the middle of the night under the cover of darkness,” he continued. “And there was a reason for that … we got the footage. And this cop was talking to the NGOs and the people, the bus drivers, everyone being hired by the government to take these illegal immigrants off these flights and put them on buses. And they were saying that they were doing it in the middle of the night under the cover of darkness. So nobody would find out, because if people did find out, it would be a betrayal by the American government of its own people.”

Astorino is astounded by the response of Democratic lawmakers and the liberal media to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s recent transportation of illegal migrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.

“But now that it’s all the way out in the open and it has been obviously for the last year … and the Republicans are picking the scab and showing the whole world what’s really going on here, they can’t handle it and it’s a complete and utter meltdown,” Astorino told Kilmeade. “And if one thing is guaranteed, whenever you see those signs on the lawns that, no person is illegal, we believe in science, Black lives matter, peacefully coexist. The other side of the sign says, we’re just kidding. They’re just totally, totally hypocritical on everything.”

Officials in Martha’s Vineyard originally said they would welcome the migrants with open arms, ensuring they received better treatment than that offered by the Republican governors who sent them away, but soon after being confronted with 50 homeless immigrants, the rich enclave shipped the travelers to a military base in Cape Cod.

“This is an ongoing situation,’’ wrote a county emergency-management rep in a statement. “We have reached out to our State and Federal partners for additional and long term support and assistance.’’

The small community was thrown into “chaos” with the unexpected arrival of 50 individuals, leaving border states scratching their head at the overblown response. DeSantis has pledged to continue to use Florida dollars to share the burden of illegal immigration with “sanctuary cities” across the U.S.
